ACNH should let you break down items for materials

agree w op
not because i accidentally made an item, but bc i craft it, try to use it for decoration, it looks bad, and i could just break it and do smth else instead of having an useless item in my storage

Would love to be able to do it for all the log furniture I don't use anymore... 😩

This has a lot of game-breaking consequences such as a lack of fear of consumption of rare materials. I am reminded of when Equivalent Exchange hit the mod scene of Mincraft back in the early 2010s. It was pretty quickly revealed that it was severely game breaking.

meh, i don't think it's a needed feature. it feels a little cheat-y to be able to just undo things you've crafted like that.

I would like this! I've accidentally made the wrong tool too many times, so a way to reverse this would be cool.

I’ve not made anything accidentally but I do make a bunch of different things and then see what looks the best, then I’m left with 4 different style of bench that I wasted materials on 😒 id love an NPC for materials etc!

I dont know, I feel like adding this feature would make things "too easy." I like the idea that once you craft something (ie wood into a bookshelf) it cant be undone like in real life.

I mean, how many times did you accidentally made something and ran out of materials (like gold)
That's odd you say that because last night I was thinking the exact same thing about being able to break down an item for mats, but I kept thinking maybe I was too used to having the ability when playing certain other games (that I don't play anymore, but yeah).

i agree with u here!! i feel like ffxiv had a good desynthesis/decrafting system. if u crafted an item u could break it down, but it would only give u back like 1 or 2 materials instead of every material used to make it.

This is such a great idea, quite often I craft things I don't actually think look good on my island and then end up selling them or throwing them away.

I was just thinking about this the other day when I accidentally crafted an extra iron garden table ^^;;

The only thing I accidentally make that I already have are when I build the wrong tools, but I don't really need the resources back from them; I'm overrun with branches. I do agree though! Breaking down seasonal DIYs to save space and retain resources would be great, even if the resources obtained from breaking them down is less than the initial resource spending cost for making them.

THIS. And also a storage that is different for your raw materials which is separate from all the other stuff you have. I would also love a cheat or something we could use outside of the house to access your storage or like a chest that can carry some items (like in Stardew Valley).

Often times when I’m trying to recruit a villager from my campsite via amiibo, I have to run back and forth between my house and the DIY place I have near the campsite. I don’t want to lay materials outside either.

But gawd, sometimes after crafting an item, I’m like: “NO WAIT! It doesn’t look good after all! ACK! Why autosave?! Welp, guess I’m stuck with this raccoon figurine that I actually didn’t want in the end...*
