ACCF Friend Code and Such

Shouldn't the ACCF info (friend code, name, town name) cease to be a thing since, well, Nintendo shut the servers down? I'm not really seeing where it serves a purpose anymore but I realize it's a fairly easy thing to overlook especially considering it was shut down fairly recently.
