ac:nh, pocket camp vibes?

hiii!
so, i haven't really seen anyone else talking about this...
when i first started looking into new horizons (like in the very beginning), i got major pocket camp vibes.

i mean, crafting? collecting resources to craft? etc.

i also heard they MIGHT be adding microtransactions to the game smh. it's not confirmed, but you guys can look into it more.

i feel like those vibes have kindaaa left, but i feel like there are still some there.

what do you guys think? does new horizons remind you of pocket camp? how do you feel about it?

Nope! Crafting is a basic description of the mechanic.

Pocket Camp requires no skill to get materials - fish and bugs are easy to catch and trade for materials. Crafting takes ages to do so they can charge you to speed it up

The In Game Purchases disclaimer is likely to CYA for the Online Subscription and Future DLC - not premium currency or cosmetics.

Fire Emblem Heroes did not spell doom for Fire Emblem 3 Houses. Pocket Camp spells nothing for New Horizons.

This is just a guess, but don’t you feel that they released pocket camp as an introduction to NH? I feel it was to gather intel whilst they were still working on and finalising the game. Testing out how the audience reacted to it. I also feel they wanted to float how people would respond to MT in an AC world.

I personally don’t buy into it and I actually stopped playing PC. I refuse to pay for content.

I’m also angry that on the back of the NH box it says they’ll be in game purchase options when the game is already 50 quid. I think it’s a poor decision from Nintendo and I’ll definitely not be buying anything in the game.

I agree, I couldn’t stand it anymore! I loved idea of fortune cookies and thought it was a cool idea to have rare items in exchange for play points but I just can’t stand when they blur the line between fantasy and reality and take away the value of a retreat. They’re issues we don’t need finding their way into a place where we can all forget about real life worries for a while.

Exactly this. Mobile games work completely differently - PC is a free download, so how else are they going to make money? With NH, you're buying a full game, you have to pay for it when you buy it, and they're getting money from everyone, not just the "whales".

I have not played Pocket Camp, however I've definitely seen gameplay of it. I don't get Pocket Camp vibes from New Horizons. It may share some inspiration from it, but it definitely is not the same.

I've been playing Pocket Camp since it's release. Other than being in HD, I don't see any similarities. Phone style microtransactions are not going to be in the game, and this isn't EA like FIFA. DLC for sure at some point, but fair, as seen by Smash Bros, Pokemon Sword/Shield, Luigi's Mansion 3, Fire Emblem Three Houses.

I personally feel as though PC was an way for Nintendo to dip their toes into the mobile game market. They knew there was a massive fan base just dying for another AC game. Whilst PC was never going to be anything like a mainstay game - it offered many features that the other spin offs hadn?t. It also allowed Nintendo to try including different features and see how people reacted to them (for example, the crafting system, friendship point based system). Maybe it was, in part, preparation for NH. But I feel it was more just an opportunity they took to expand the AC market. I think they understand that the logic that works in PC couldn?t work in a mainstay game. Micro transactions and premium currency have no place in a game like NH.

I feel the disclaimer was more aimed at either the online play or potentially DLC, rather than micro transactions.

this topic really irritates me, like have you seen any of the trailers and videos at all? acnh is basic animal crossing with a simple crafting feature; there's no leveling, there's no time-gate. it is nothing like pocket camp, not graphics-wise, not BASIC gameplay-wise. literally nothing is similar. all of these worries about microtransactions are completely unfounded too. multiplayer WILL be apart of this game and like other games on the switch, you will need nintendo's online subscription to play. and games that require a purchase to play typically do not have microtransactions; that's in bad taste and generally turns many people off from the game. nintendo is a family-friendly company and animal crossing has always been a family-friendly series; if they added microtransactions parents wouldn't buy a $60+ game for their children if they're just gonna bug their parents about their credit card number. the reason pocket camp has microtransactions like that is because it's free to play and unless they had advertisements there's no way they'd get the money to keep it running, plus most (sane) parents aren't giving their 8 year old a phone to play it on (i hope).

i realize that that is your opinion and that is fine, but the way you've stated it causes panic and negativity. everything will be fine, and even if there are microtransactions it'll probably be in the form of dlc or at least have enough content in it to justify the price unlike certain other companies (the sims for example).

I haven't heard a single thing about micro transactions in NH... and tbh I highly doubt the pocket camp type of transactions would return in NH. Mobile games are meant to be that, on your phone and micro transactions are there to try to sway impulse buyers to spend a little bit here and then.

Main stream games like NH is turning out to be, is usually far from these types of micro transactions and such. Nintendo has too much respect for their main stream games to put micro transactions. Look at Pokemon as a good example of this, Pokemon Go is a massive success because its totally different from main games... it has micro transactions, but the mainline games after did not follow suit. I think this exactly how AC will follow.

I think NH is going to be a mash-up of things learned from pocket camp and others, but at its core it is a main-line game and will be treated as such.

I think you need to wait for more information before you would jump to conclusions about "in-game purchases"

I haven?t played PC but only thing remotely similar is the crafting but by the looks of the trailer the materials are gained fairly easily and crafting is instantaneous. Other than that, ACNH looks to me like the regular AC games we know and love, only wayyy more customization options (EXCITING!!!) There?s also fortune cookies in ACNL although they are obtained with play coins and it?s not confirmed yet if we?re getting a similar currency to that in the new game (not including Nook Miles since that?s a little different). I?m sure they only reused the ?fortune cookie? item in PC but attached micro transactions to it because it?s a free mobile game and those almost always come with micro transactions. I don?t see that happening in ACNH.

I can only hope they?ll add PC style furniture though. They look so pretty.

DeNA built the service infrastructure for Pocket Camp and Fire Emblem Heroes. They're not involved in New Horizons.

Due to all the info above, microtransactions are unlikely. DLC is pretty much a guarantee though.

I think it would be incredibly risky for them to include microtransactions in New Horizons. I could even see it creating something of a scandal, since people would get pretty upset over a full priced game going the way of its mobile game counterpart. Also just due to the fact that public opinion of microtransactions in full priced games was already poor, and then got substantially worse after the release of EA's Star Wars Battlefront 2.

To be clear, I don't think there will be microtransactions, this is just my reasoning as to why I think it would be a bad idea and thus probably won't happen.

I visited some towns in Dream Suite and also some homes from the showcase but never to play live or visit Club Tortimer. I was always happy going solo and visiting my other two towns with the near field connection between my 3ds and 2ds. Is using the eShop to download games and demos part of the online subscription? We don't really know yet the extent of what you can do online but it seems like it'll be required to play with other people online, but local coop play won't require it. You don't need an Switch Online subscription to download games but you do need a free Nintendo account to use the eshop.

People need to stop freaking out about microtransactions until we get more information. The eShop notice could simply mean standard DLC coming later. Don't bring out the pitchforks until we know exactly what it entails. Nintendo's never done anything of alarm in a full-priced game yet, so I don't see why they'd start now. I hope they wouldn't do such a thing. We'll just have to wait and see.
