About villagers and outside chairs?

I have chairs outside my museum but never see anyone sit on them, I do have a round table in the middle of 2 chairs, does their have to be space between the chair and table?

The distance between the tables and chairs shouldn't stop them from sitting there, I have a similar set up in my town and I see them sit there occasionally. It's never for very long though, most villagers tend to hang out in front of their houses in my experience.

I think as long as your character can sit in them, a villager can. I have chairs with armrests that can’t be sat in being the same distance, and it’s just for show. Otherwise, it looks awkward.

Since New Leaf I've noticed that villagers sit on benches a lot more than single chairs.I do catch them sitting on single chairs/stools occasionally but they seem to favor the benches more.

Kidd seems to favour the pet bed on my island at the beach. Rarely see him sitting on a chair/bench!

My villagers always sit by the beach or the river. I don’t think they like my chairs, lol. It’s fine, though. They’re for show anyway.

You shouldn't need any space between. I have the same set up in lots of the front yards for my villagers, and they sit in them all the time.

I've found some areas of the island to be more popular than others, but I don't know if there's anything to it! My villagers mostly sit on the benches I placed directly in front of my plaza, or the benches/table and chair setups in front of their houses (or the house of a neighbouring villager). I haven't really noticed them use the benches or chairs placed around my island in other locations (e.g. near a bridge, near the museum, near the beach or in a park type area).

As long as a chair doesn't have arms, villagers can sit in a chair that is up against a table with no problem. It takes a while for villagers to use chairs for some reason. If you really want them to sit at a table, you may have better luck if you have a Tree near by or place it closer to one of the houses.

I've decorated the yards of a few villager homes with chairs and tables but they usually prefer to loiter in Ava's backyard and sit around the koi pond. Or they'll sit in the chairs I placed in someone else's yard. Basically, they just do whatever they want and you can't really control them.

lol so true, i ended up taking the chairs out of their yards because it was pointless decor. Bones would always sit directly in front of the chair but never ON the chair… like what the heck

They sit wherever they want, usually. I don’t think the distance should matter. Sometimes three random stools show up at the plaza, and villagers will just be sitting there eating something….

My villagers tend to prefer to sit in the ground instead of the nice chair and benches I placed all around my town.

My villagers love to sit on the ground too. Especially on this spot in my island.

There's literally two benches and a swing, yet they choose the ground.

I have a froggy chair near Residential Services and my villagers sit in it regularly. I also have stone stools outside of every house. Most of them have gyroids on them that best compliment the character. I have a couple without gyroids and Diva sat on one of them.
