Today marks the 54th anniversary of the Aberfan disaster.

At 9:13am on the 21st of October 1966, disaster struck the south Wales village of Aberfan when 150,000 tonnes of coal waste slid down a hillside, engulfing Pantglas Junior School and a number of neighbouring houses.

116 children and 28 adults were killed.

It was one of the worst industrial disasters Britain has ever seen.

Although I'm not Welsh I love Wales, i think its important to remember disasters like this ❤

I just recently learned about this while watching season 3 of The Crown. I had never heard of it before. Such a terrible tragedy. My heart goes out to all the parents who lost their children that day.

thank you for spreading awareness about this; i’d never heard of this tragedy before but my heart goes out to all the victims and their families. i can’t imagine just how scared the victims must’ve felt💔
