UPDATE: After going through my chatlog, I have found out that the user’s player name is Anne-Ca. I would advise to stay away from anyone named Anne-Ca from Ka’uhane!!

So I just recently found myself at the hands of a problematic host for turnip.exhange.

Someone was hosting an island called Ka’uhane saying that their turnip prices were 535 bells per turnip, but to bring 5 hybrids as payment for joining. I joined and brought 3 orange pansies, 1 orange tulip, and 1 blue Pansy and there were two other people dropping their hybrids as well. It was a fenced-in area with two holes dug up as an exit/entrance. Then the host said “give me hybrids” and waited for us all to place our flowers and forcefully ended the session??

now my hybrids are gone, and I can’t even report the player because that isn’t an option on turnip.exchange. And I’ve seen them recreate the post after 5 minutes repeatedly (presumably to get 3 people onto the island who will drop the hybrids and then they disconnect) WHILE INCREASING THE LISTED TURNIP PRICE EACH TIME TO GET MORE PEOPLE TO JOIN!!!

Moral of the story? Please be careful trading!! On here I don’t think that it is as big of a risk considering the feedback system but please be careful about other trading websites. This might happen to you too!! And watch out for the island name Ka’uhane if you go onto turnip.exchange and the additional info reads “BRING [X NUMBER] HYRBRIDS (RARE FLOWERS)” I don’t know the player’s name as turnip.exchange doesn’t list that.

NOTE: IF ANYONE ON HERE HAS THE ISLAND NAME KA’UHANE I’M SORRY! THIS IS NOT DIRECTED AT YOU BUT LOTS OF PEOPLE USE TURNIP.EXCHANGE AND ARE BEING ROBBED FROM AND I WANT TO SPREAD AWARENESS!

I am very sorry! I am not versed in the online switch adding friends mechanics, but isn't there an option to view the player you last played with? Perhaps there is button there to report a person?

Yes, there is!! I’ve reported them to Nintendo but I’m not sure how much help that would be considering that it’s player-with-player trading and I don’t exactly have proof of what happened. I’m more concerned about making sure that people can see that they have done this/preventing them from making more posts and scamming more people.

Wow, that's terrible! It really sucks when people scam other people even in Animal Crossing, it's not like hybrids are so difficult to get when you already have an online subscription. 😪

You can only report Splatoon 2 players through the mobile app at the moment.

That's terrible, and I feel sorry for you.

I visited an island of a member of this forum yesterday to sell my turnips. She didn't asked for a fee, but said that tips were appreciated, especially non-orange hybrids. As I don't have a lot of hybrids, a gave her a pink rose and dropped 1 NMT, as I know it could be helpful for her. Everything went well and she was very patient, hosting for more than an hour (I was waiting for around 80 minutes on the queue). She also used turnip.exchange to manage the whole thing.

The experience you're talking about is another sign of the degeneracy that now runs rampant in AC's community. It's starting to resemble how MMOs were being played circa 2005-2010, where it was the wild west (and I say that being someone who played Ultima Online, the most lawless online game I've ever seen).

Don't worry, they'll continue to get reported. With enough unrelated reports, Nintendo won't need much more proof than that.

What a bummer. Shame on that rascal.

I sure hope so! I saw them recreate the listing at least 4 times so that’s easily 60 hybrids that they scammed people out of, and that’s just from what I saw. They could have done this many more times before I experienced it.

Yes!! It’s so sad to see how selfish and rude people are and especially to see it more often with the increase in the popularity of AC. I see that lots of people are generous and accept tips for opening up their islands for Celeste, high turnip prices, etc. and I haven’t lost my faith in the community at all yet! I want to warn others about the risks of using trading sites that don’t have feedback systems/user reviews because it’s an easy target for scammers.

What’s also sad is that people who are brand new to the series might also be experiencing these scams. I’d imagine getting scammed in the first month of owning a new video game would leave a sour taste in anyone’s mouth.

People like that is why I am always weary of people who ask for Hybrids as payment. I know not everyone is like that but still.

Turnip exchange is a garbage site , same with the subreddit dedicated to it, it is only full of scammers, people asking for huge tips when their turnips are around 200, and bad hosts and conexions.

The only good options are this forum, and, as horrible as it sounds, I'd recommend looking at the 4chan /v/ animal crossing threads. If you manage to shift through all of the disgusting stuff and questionable content in the thread, there's usually someone that has posted a dodo with high turnip prices. They don't ask for tips or entry fees and are usually quite nice surprisingly.

Yes! The only reason why I turned to Turnip.exchange was because I’ve been having trouble finding people offering high turnip prices on this forum, but I’ll definitely take that piece of advice! I’m going to be avoiding Turnip.Exchange from now on (outside of maybe hosting as tips-only if I have some decent turnip prices to try to combat the scammers)

All that just to get a few hybrids which are easily obtainable by yourself, how desperate. I mean if you're going to scam people at least make it worthwhile.

Exactly!! Honestly the only reason why I considered tipping in hybrids was because I’m in the process of landscaping my town and I’m running out of room for flower breeding. I’m getting overgrown with some types of hybrids and I was fine with paying in hybrids because... they’re easy to get and I can breed more later. The fact that they’re scamming people out of something so easily obtainable tells me that they don’t really know what they’re doing. I hope they get reprimanded soon

Yeah, there are some scammers around. They probably didn't even have that price, just made a listing to lure people in, then closed the session once they got their "fee". I've read similar tales of people demanding bells then kicking everyone out.

My advice, don't pay an entrance fee upfront, only tip someone AFTER you've sold your turnips.

Am I the only who thinks that the whole turnip business is just pretty crazy (or got crazy)? Like, I can only judge this as an outsider, because I'm not active in said business, but the amount of drama I read about it (not just here on Bell Tree, but also on Reddit etc.) since the game came out is insane. I feel very sorry for people who had to witness scams/bad trades and I have a huge respect to people who can handle this without losing their minds. Like I can't imagine to take care of tons of random people visiting my island or getting in a fight with a scammer because of virtual vegetables...

I'm so sorry this happened to you, how can people be so greedy on a small game, it amazes me. Just a note incase it ever happens again when the 'time to go home' screen comes up immediately press your home/power button and it'll not save anything because of a connection error. If you let it fully load it's basically giving it the time to save everything, you need to cut this short!

Correct me if I am wrong, but the reporting mechanic is meant for things like profanity and harassment, not scamming.

I'm so sorry this happened :c this is why I tend to stay away from places that require an entry fee simply because I'm always paranoid they can just end the session after the fee is given. Outside of this forum ofc; I have faith in the feedback system here.
