Hello everyone, after thinking much about the new second analog attachment coming out for 3DS, I thought about something. Why did Nintendo not do this? (sorry for the crappy image editing, I'm very rusty right now...)

But then the right side would have no real meaning... And it wouldn't feel the same holding it from just one side.

If you think about it, the second analog stick would act like a C Stick more than anything. This thought/idea would make the 3DS control interface more like the interface of a Gamecube controller.

Because they would have had to either make the system bigger, or make the battery smaller, neither of which would be a good thing. (Don't believe me? Look at a 3DS teardown, there's really no room at all in there for a second Circle Pad. Nintendo packed the 3DS to the brim.)

I think the new Circle Pad attachment is a good thing. It gives you optional (key word) dual analog controls if you want it. If you don't, you don't need to use it. It's a completely optional device. And it's not as big and bulky as it seems. People are saying that it's pretty compact and very light, and it feels really good in your hands (this is especially good for people with big hands who say the 3DS gives them hand cramps).

I understand all that above but, I was just thinking it would be a better system if they did that to start with or made it a part of the next generation of 3DS (3DS Lite anyone?). I personally think the current set up is amazing already, this was just a simple thought that would make the system have a Gamecube-like control interface. I personally might buy the expansion regardless of how it looks at first sight because it might prove useful later. I also think a set up like the one I was showing above would be better for the next Super Smash Bros. game.

More inputs are always (well, almost always) better, yeah, but the question is at what cost? Like I said, they would have to make the 3DS bigger in order to fit a second Circle Pad in, or they'd have to cut out something else. I don't think that's what the 3DS needs, so I'm fine with it staying as an optional attachment. For the games that take advantage of it, I'll use it. As far as Smash Bros. goes, though, it only uses the second analog stick for quick Smash Attacks, something that can be done by using the primary analog stick and the A button. It's not really needed for Smash Bros. at all. I'd be more concerned with the lack of a Z button for grabbing (which can be done through other button commands as well, but it's a lot harder without a dedicated button). Though if it ends up using the Circle Pad attachment, you'll have ZR and ZL to use, so that won't be a problem.

put the stick above the buttons

the 3ds is already balls hard to hold comfortably for more than ten seconds, i dunno.

I think the new circle pad is pretty cool! Although I hear that it's going to 20 dollars, and that seems a bit to expensive for what it is. I know I'm going to get one though.

I wont care if they make another 3DS with a second circle pad. I've already got one, why would I bother to buy a second one...

You should be looking forward to the Circle Pad attachment, then.
except it makes it even bulkier and blockier to hold?

unless the botom is all grippy and ergonomic

in which case it's even more bulkier to comfortably take with you

It supposedly feels a lot like a traditional controller. It has a better grip, and because it makes the system a bit bigger, using the D-pad doesn't feel as awkward.
