So I know I?m not that kind of person who would plot reset, but just in case- I have a question.
So plot resetting goes like this:
-Get villager
-Time travel before movedate on 6 am(timetravel to 5 am)
-Save and quit
-Wait for few minutes until it?s 6am in-game or more
-Create new character
-Look for the plot

What if the villager placed their plot on an area you dont want them to plot in?

I know you just quit without saving. But do you timetravel back to 5 am as your existing mayor or do you directly create a new character again?

You just soft reset the game by closing the game and reloading it, and create a new character and look to see if the plot is in a desirable location. If you like the location, save and quit on the temporary character and then load your Mayor. This will save the location and afterwards you can delete the extra character. However, you'll have a dirt patch where the tent was.

HOWEVER! You can place patterns everywhere, leaving a 3x3 open area to force locations more easily. It looks dumb but it makes it TONNES easier. What I normally do is every two "tiles" I place a pattern. Since with Welcome Amiibo, plots can't be put on placed patterns (unless there are no area it can be placed it will overwrite the patterns), this essentially lets you manipulate plots.

I tend to do this with my patterns:

X are patterns, O are empty spaces (Grass/Dirt).

OOXOOXOOXOOXOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOOOOOOOOOOOOO
OOXOOXOOXOOXOO

Doing this leaves no 3 by 3 area for houses to plot, unless you open that area up. Just remember that villager houses technically need 5 by 5 in order to plot (tiles around actual house must be "free").

So if the villager plots somewhere you dont like them to be on... you just quit without saving then directly make a new character without having to open your mayor file? Gotcha. Thanks. :)

Yup, pretty much. No need to change the clock. In fact, that'll FORCE the plotted character to have already of moved in. So don't change it back to pre-6AM at all costs. Once 6AM hits, you're committed.

By the way, you can create a new character anytime after 6am right? Even the next day?

I'm not entirely sure since plot resetting has never really taken me more than 5 minutes considering the methods I use.. but I wouldn't risk it. I think its as long as you don't load your mayor's save file but at the same time the game might act as if its next day and the villager would have moved in.

The new villager doesnt make a plot unless you load the game based on my understanding.
The first day after someone moved out, it?s not that likely that you get a new plot. When I plot reset I usually TT forward like 4 days or so because the chance for a new plot will be really high then. Plot resetting on the first day when someone could move in will take much more time because you will run into many scenarios where no one comes. Ideally, if you don?t want to TT forward a few days, make a new character and save only when you see no plot. Do that for a few days in a row (if you want to play naturally) and then do the plot resetting on the third/fourth day because the chance of a new plot is really high by then and you almost allways get a new plot when you reset.
So yes you can wait as long as you like I think. I haven?t tried waiting more than a week but my guess is that no one will make a plot unless you load the game. (And of course no plot will be saved unless you load the game with an already existing character or save with a new character^^)
