I've been trying to breed black roses, but all I've ended up with is an abundance of red roses. Is there something in New Leaf that causes some hybrids to be harder to breed than others? Blue roses breed so easily in my town but black don't want to at all.

Any help or advice is much appreciated.

Hello! According to this image you should breed red x orange and the only offspring are either black or orange roses. I haven’t tested how well this works personally, but I am intrigued so I think I will right now. I well let you know my results. :D

First day : 1 red(??), 3 orange, 1 black
Second day : 4 orange, 1 black
Third day : 5 orange
Fourth day : 1 red(??), 4 orange
Fifth day : 1 red(??), 4 orange
Sixth day : 1 red(??), 4 orange
Seventh day : 3 orange, 2 black

On the last day I decided to change one of my five red x orange pairs for the 2 black roses I’d bred onearlier days. That pair resulted in one of the black roses. I think that black roses may be the most frustrating hybrid to breed, even more frustrating than blue roses unless black x black proves consistent in breeding more black roses.

Also, thanks for teaching me to preview my posts before hitting that button! Look how janky my quote is. You were so quick to replay I didn’t get a chance to fix it and now everyone can see my shame! :p

Ah thank you so much for your help! I'm so used to having so many black (black x black) and it being easy!

I am off to test this ? I have also checked the other hybrid charts from their page (here) and I thank you for leading me to it.

I'll probably share my results, just to see how they differ from yours or if there's any pattern. Black x Black has so far resulted in red, red, white, red and more white.

* I'll go back and fix the quote if you want ? There are tons of quotes in the forum in which I've spelled my name or something wrong / w ?

No, that’s quite all right! No need to edit your quote - I just had a good laugh about it!

Did you breed those black roses yourself? So far my black x black roses have produced only black. If you got them from someone else they may have been hacked!

Yea, I just bought new ones from someone who had bred them on their own.

(I had ordered a bulk of hybrids a while back and my guess is they're hacked, as they only produce non-hybrids, which sucks because I've had to get rid of a ton.)

Ah, yes. I’ve had experience with unknowingly buying hacked flowers. They’re great for people buying in bulk to decorate and not so great for people like us that plan on breeding with them. Luckily, I had only bought a couple so I wasn’t burned too bad on that deal.

Hopefully the flowers you got now are the real deal! I now have a bunch of orange and black roses from my experiments. :p

For decorating, they're great but now I've collected so many red roses, and countless other non-hybrids as a result.

I should say, thanks for your help as well! Both for the hybrids and with this thread!
