And to answer your question (which is definitely not stupid,) the dates on the collectibles dictate the order in which they appear on your sidebar (the oldest ones appear most to the bottom right and newest on top left.) No change in appearance, value or anything like that, people are just always asking for certain dates to get their collectible lineups in a particular order
