I feel bad for saying this but I feel super burned out from doing trades and DIY recipe giveaways.
I have some recipes down in my basement but I think I'm just going to sell them at the shop. I really want to decorate my basement a certain way and the extra DIY recipes are just preventing me from doing so. I just feel a bit sad because I know someone could potentially want them but I can't help but feel like the whole aspect of hosting strangers on my Island to pick up random recipes is just exhausting me and causing a burnout.
It's not that anything negative has happened - in fact, all the people I have interacted with on the forum for trades or giveaways were super nice - but I just feel it's so time consuming and just takes away from the enjoyment of experiencing the game for myself.
Does anyone feel the same way?
I guess if the recipes were super rare, I'd probably keep them for now but I feel like they're basic enough for anyone to get eventually, anyway.

While this may not be necessarily fair to everyone, I just post and ask one person to take all of my spare DIYs for free. That way they'll find their way to at least one person, maybe the whole community if the person pass on the dupes.

True but I don't think a lot of people are too keen on that.
Most prefer to just pick up what they want, which kind of makes sense because then they're the ones stuck with dupe recipes. lol...

i feel the same way. while i haven’t been hosting giveaways, i’ve been doing a large amount of trades lately and it’s starting to burn me out, too - i just wanna be able to do other things in-game and irl without feeling worried that i’m missing somebody who wants to trade with me. i just wanna get off the forums for a couple hours lmao

i personally have my diy dupes scattered on the beach - i keep them around in case somebody is looking for them at some point but i’m not actively trying to get rid of them, either

It's totally up to you. If you have a bunch of extras, but are tired of hosting giveaways, you could either hold on to them for now, but take a break from sharing them with the community, or if you really want to get rid of them and just be done with it all, you can of course sell without feeling guilty! ^_^ As was mentioned, you don't owe the community anything. Do giveaways if it makes you happy to, but you are starting to burn out on them, just sell them and enjoy the feeling of having cleaned up that mess =p

I have a small pile of diys on my own island that I'm not sure if I'm going to give them away, or just sell them to nooks.

I tend to only keep DIYs that I believe are sought after, and just sell the rest to Nook's Cranny.

As far as we know, none of the DIYs are island-exclusive, so everyone will get them all eventually. No one is missing out because they cant trade. They'll just have to wait a bit longer.
Especially considering you cant store them, no one should be expected to hoard DIYs just in case someone might need one of them.

I also got burnt out from it, mostly because it seemed like more times than not, I had someone picking flowers from my island.... so I just stopped opening up for randoms as much and focus on helping out my closer friends

I run a shop for duplicate DIYs and I can only stay open for a little bit every day because I get stressed if I start thinking I'm taking too long to fill orders. I feel bad not being able to help out other people too, but I just tell myself that we'll all get them eventually and it's just a matter of how quickly you want to get them. There's always going to be another person offering to sell theirs or give them away so it takes some pressure off of me.

I also got burnt out from trading & hosting giveaways so I stopped doing so a while ago. I have two floors full of spare DIYs, the only reason I keep them is that I know I have a friend who will start playing those so I'll just dump them on his island as soon as he gets his game, otherwise I'd have probably sold them.
It's too exhausting to constantly hold giveaways because most of the time people just need one or two recipes, when a week later you just find yourself with the same amount of DIYs on hand because the game can't seem to let you get the ones you're missing and gives you an insane amount of duplicates instead.
I really don't get why you cannot store them like other items, it doesn't make any sense...

Absolutely understandable. The way that online is implemented where you have to wait through cutscenes for people to come and go – it is entirely designed to be time-consuming and take away from your ability to play the game for yourself! So it's no wonder you feel that way when you have mass traffic.

fwiw though, I keep my extra diys on my beach. I think it's smart to sell the more common ones to conserve space and sanity.

It's your game. You don't owe the community anything. If you would rather just clear them via Nook's then that is okay. You don't need to feel bad about that.

This ^ your game. Don't stress about it, that's not how AC is meant to be. Also you could sell all diy's but keep just a few that you think people look for the most. Or just sell all. The only thing you SHOULDN'T do is feel bad about playing the game how you want to play it.

I feel the same way. I've got about 50+ in my house, and I'm getting them faster than I can give away

Totally seconding everyone here who supports you playing in a way that makes you happy!! As kind as it is that you want people to get DIYs they are missing, it is awfully time consuming, especially to give to strangers. Usually what I do is dump my DIYs on the beach, and anytime someone comes over (whether it's for trades or just hanging out) I tell them to take any DIYs they don't have already. ^^ I also like to bring the extras when I visit someone, they make for nice tips!

True. It is a bit selfish when you think about it that way, and it actually did happen to one person that I had given them to before. I don't have bad intentions when I give them away but I guess the result isn't always the desired one after all. I just hate to waste them, same as you, but setting up so many trades and giveaways tires me out somehow.

Edit: Selfish in the sense that you may be unintentionally passing a burden on to another player.

I totally understand feeling burnt out, I’ve never really been one for keeping diy recipes though, just because I hate the clutter- I just tend to keep a few on my rocks and sell the rest. If you need to take a break and the diys are starting to clutter up then just sell them to nooks, there’s no reason to feel guilty and if you decide in the future that you want to start trading/giving away again then maybe you could just keep the super rare ones?

Mail them to my friends or just sell them. Nothing bad will happen to you if you just pitch them to Timmy and Tommy. I'll write you your own personal permission slip if you need one to just toss them!

haha thanks... I guess I shouldn't feel too bad about it.

I don't keep mine outdoors because I thought that that affects the town rating and I'm trying to maintain my 5-star for a few weeks at least to get more Lilies of the Valley.

I keep the rare ones for trading and wrap the rest up as mystery presents for visitors. :)
