Can anyone give me a gimp layer tutorial? Or explain how they work, I'm new to gimp, any kind of graphic editing at that matter, and layers slightly confuse me. :|

It should at the minimum take probably 4-5 minutes on explaining it IMO.

As for layers, it is a bit confusing in gimp from my experience, but once you get the hang of it you'll be bonded with it.
