5 Star Islands, How Did You Do It? {UPDATE: Hit 5 Stars}

It happened completely on accident for me. I didn't know until I was walking around doing my daily chores and noticed my first lily of the valley. I honestly just took my time to decorate how I liked it, and it naturally just happened!

For some strange reason, I got 5 stars when my town was a mess in furniture and overflown with flowers and it was in a work of progress. I didn't know it until I talked to Isabelle and she mentioned 5 stars.

It took me the longest time to reach 5 stars, what affected my score was that I had a lot of DIYs on the ground, and once I cleaned them all up planted more trees and made more waterfalls Isabelle told me I had a 5 star island.

Mine is decorated, I have a outdoor cafe, music area with instruments, hangout zone with the moon and two moon chairs as well as other small items, a fountain with the stone hedge, little area with DIY fruit items, and a small star gazing area with a few itmes :/

Probably not the case, but just in case do you happen to have any stalls? I notice people like to drop items on the stalls. If you don't "place" them, those count towards items dropped on the ground.

Otherwise, just keep working on it. You'll get to 5*s eventually, don't stress over it. Keep adding a bit more to your island everyday and you'll get there! It's not even a big deal at the end of the day as it's just a rating :)

Nook Plaza has an Island Rating calculator.

I would say the easiest way to get a 5-star is to have a bunch of furniture outside, flowers, and fences.

I got it without trying. My island wasn't even fully developed. There was a huge part of my island where it had nothing and magically I came across my first lily of the valley. In all honesty I wish I knew how exactly did it work for me to get 5 stars. And here I thought I still was at 3 stars.

I have 4 stalls and have 2 hats on each that look like food c: that’s crazy it counts as drops!

Omg thank you! I’m definitely gonna use this!

It was strange for my case, because I felt like I was on the fence where I was telling myself I didn't really care about the island rating, but then I would contradict myself by constantly checking in with Isabelle to see where I was standing. I guess it took a bit of time since I slowly developed my island little by little. It took a lot of flower growing, tree chopping and furniture crafting in order to obtain it. I do remember feeling proud after finally having the 5 stars. I guess I really did care about it in the end. 😂

A lot of furniture items, a lot of trees and a lot of flowers. At every corner there’s at least some kind of furniture item, flower or tree. It took me a long time too. It was driving me nuts lol I do also have plenty of weeds so my score must be high enough for it not to hurt it

I have no idea. I assume it's all thanks to a little section of my island that is very heavily decorated, but I'm also kind of surprised that whole acre wasn't considered by the game to be cluttered because I was kind of convinced that would be as the case as it's truly jam packed with stuff (on purpose).

I do have a lot of flowers too, but I've been adding weeds in for aesthetics and am still sitting comfortably at 5 stars, so I must be pretty high over the requirement.

tbh people seem to forget that fencing counts as part of the star rating. I was at 4 for a while until I finally added fences tbh

To be honest, I think it’s fences. I started putting fences into every quadrant/square of the map. Seriously random fencing. And that got me to 5 stars.

After a while I decided I got enough lily of the valleys so I cleaned up all the random furniture and fencing.

My son then went nuts and started putting fencing everywhere. We dipped to 4 stars at one point but popped back up to 5. We had nowhere as much furniture as before but fencing and flowers everywhere and that put us back up to 5.

I don’t have much of an idea, really, it just sort of happened. When I got to five stars, my town wasn’t even built entirely, just about 50% done so I was also surprised. I did have a lot of flowers and trees though and almost maxed out my incline limit at that time so I don’t know if that’s a factor.

it took seriously SO MUCH furniture haha. unique furniture is best when possible too! there are online guides that show you the points system that can be helpful. having a lot of bridges/inclines gets you points, as well as trees and flowers and whatnot. but ultimately furniture probably makes the biggest different (or it did for me at least). But don't rush it and don't stress it! mine's at 5 stars based on the point values but is still SO FAR from being complete!

Edit: fences too! tons of them!

I put up 3 inclines, 2 bridges, got the Campsite up, Able Sister's up, Nook's Cranny completely upgraded, put a bunch of flowers in different locations, put up fences here and there, then decorated areas with paths leading different locations and put a bunch of furniture all over the place. It was an unorganized mess. Then I saw a lily of the valley one morning and went to confirm that I did in fact get a 5 star island. It was easier than I expected.

Honest to god I have no idea I woke up today to one of those special flower and I checked and she said we were five star. My island isn't even close to done so I don't know how this happened.

I just finished and it says I only have 3 stars when I have four in my town, how accurate is it? c:

Maybe you miscounted? I honestly wouldn't have the patience to count all the flowers and objects in my town. It is based off the information that was datamined directly from the game's code, it should be 100% barring the disclaimer at the top.
