I'm getting either a 2DS or a 3DS very soon and I wanted your opinions on what I should get! :p

BTW, the screens getting scratched wouldn't be an issue because I'm an adult and I take care of my things and portability wouldn't be a huge problem either.

What would you suggest and why?

It depends. Are you gonna use the 3D feature? If not a 2DS can save you cash! They're a lot cheaper and not as portable but the extra money could buy you some games you've wanted.

Even though I don't use the 3D that much, I'd say a 3DS. The 2DS takes up a bunch more space in your pocket, due to the lack of a clamshell design. The thickest part of the system is the same thickness as a 3DS, so it's pretty bad. Some people also say the screens of their 2DS got scratched because of that, but I can't verify that. My screens are still in perfect condition, even after being carried around a whole bunch of times.

Apart from those points, it's also that the buttons on the 2DS are spongy as hell. On the 3DS (at least, the regular and New XL that I use) you get a satisfying click, which also gives you feedback in the sense that you know when you're pressing them down correctly. The D-pad on the 2DS also suffers from this and is closer to the D-pad on a 360 controller than the 3DS systems I've used.

So yeah, 3DS.

Even if you don't want to use the 3D feature I would get the 3DS. The design is just much better for a handheld game console and it makes it much more portable. Whenever I see the 2DS I just wonder why on earth they designed it like that to be honest.

if you're just gonna play casually and only have a few games, or just looking to save $$$ then a 2DS is the way to go

however if you dont care about the $$$ and will spend a lot of time playing lots of games then go for the 3DS

I would say 3DS I like my handhelds to be closeable and the 3DS is just better.

3DS, I'm not keen on the 2DS at all and prefer the clam shell design.

I bought a 2DS when Pokemon X and Y came out because I didn't particularly care for the 3D feature. I want the new Nintendo 3DS XL, though.

Honest opinion? If you can stretch the extra cost, get a 3DS XL. I bought a 3DS in December and my son has a 2DS. I prefer the 3DS; however seeing ACNL on my work colleague's 3DS XL I was absolutely sold and actually went to buy one yesterday, the extra screen size makes a massive difference! But be aware that some people have said that the SD card is difficult to get to on the new model, so maybe look at getting an old one if you need access to the SD card regularly :)

Honestly it's not really a contest. The 2ds is something to consider only if you absolutely cannot afford a 3ds :)

I'm an adult and take care of my things, my 3DS still has a scratch on it though. You can take as much care of something as you can and you're not going to prevent scratches, you're only reducing the risk of it happening.

But I would go with the 3DS anyway. It's just overall better in my opinion, even if you don't use the 3D (which I don't). It's more portable due it the smaller size and fact that you can close it and it overall feels better to hold and use.

If you're only going to play like 2 games on it (like the influx of people who bought ORAS and forgot they had a 3DS no long after) just go for the 2DS. It's cheaper and...That's about it. It also felt a bit 'cheap' to hold.
It also looks like a piece of toast. It's essentially the missing piece of the NES Nintoaster.

I don't know what I'm supposed to really say. One's just a cheap, worse version of the same thing. There's no real difference in the way it actually functions other than the lack of 3D. It's not exactly an outstanding difference like "Which should I get, an Atari 2600 or a WiiU"?

i have a 2ds (got it before my 3dsxl) and although it's nice if you don't want the 3D feature, it just takes up much more space. i haven't touched it in months as i prefer my 3ds! but like someone brought up earlier, if you're getting a system just for casual play purposes, then a 2ds is probably better fit.

3DS, I like how big the screen is, and its even though I really don't use the 3D feature, I do sometimes, so it's great to have that alternative.

If you haven't got any 3DS model and have quite a lot of cash to burn, the New 3DS XL will get you the most bang for your bucks. All of those enhancements made the system easily recommended for newcomers. Though, you will need to get a Philips #00 screwdriver if you want to replace the 4GB microSD card with a bigger capacity, and buy a DSi/3DS/2DS charger since New 3DS models usually won't include it. You will need to spend $199.99 and around $10 for the charger, but the investment is certainly worth the extra bucks in long term. That's even better than a regular 3DS model and 2DS.

It's worth noting that the regular 3DS model is no longer in production for quite some time, meaning that it will be difficult to find at least one from your retailers. I don't recommend this model, because it's not comfortable to hold because of its rather sharp edges. Get a 3DS XL instead if you cannot get the New 3DS XL.

3DS all the way-!

The 2DS seems kinda pointless to me. I mean, theres no 3D, it can't close, and it breaks easily from what I have heard.
And for people who are like 'But I don't want 3D.' , you can turn off the 3D--

That's what I do. xD

You've kind of already provided your own reasons for getting a 2DS over a 3DS, since those are two of the things people dislike about the 2DS.

As others here have said, if you have the money and/or plan to play it a lot, get a 3DS or a (N)3DSXL. If you don't want to spend the money and/or are a casual gamer, get a 2DS.

2DS if you REALLY can't afford that extra stretch to the 3DS. Otherwise, go with the 3DS. I had this same dilemma going on a couple months ago - I received my handheld as a gift but was asked beforehand which kind I wanted, and at first I was going with the 2DS hands-down, because of the price difference - but after talking to other people with 3DSs it seemed pretty clear to me that a proper 3DS is absolutely what you want to spring for if you can afford it. With what it would cost to get a nice hardshell case to protect the 2DS's screen (since it doesn't fold shut, doesn't have the clamshell kinda thing going on like the other models do it's pretty much always vulnerable imo) it would end up being roughly what you'd spend on a 3DS anyway.

I hope that made sense, I'm super distracted right now admittedly... orz
