2016 update for new leaf so confused about it

So I read about the update yesterday
I'm confused

• how do i get the update?
• how does it affect my current town?
• does it mean i have to start over?
• will i lose my villagers and badges??
• i also heard that tom nook may offer me money for my town?

1) when the game starts up, press Update Data (or something along those lines)
2) It doesn't affect your current town very much; a small machine will be put in front of the Town Hall (stone area) and the cliff will have a path to go to the RV Camp. (6 spaces long)
3) No, everything is still there, but a few things are added to your town.
4) Nope, badges & villagers stay where they are
5) Yes, if you played AC for a long enough amount of time, Tom Nook will purchase your town. (5 bundles of leaves)

You can select "Update data" before you load your character.

how does it affect my current town?
A ramp will appear and a strange device will be installed in front of your town hall.

does it mean i have to start over?
Nope.

will i lose my villagers and badges??
Nope again.

i also heard that tom nook may offer me money for my town?
He does, indeed but your town tree has to be at least stage 2.

Now I'M confused. Doesn't Tom Nook just offer you money for your town if you're going to reset it? I don't think he gives you money just for the sake of giving you money...

go to the eshop, and download it. it's free.
how does it affect my current town?
It just adds a ramp in, and amiibo functionality. You'll also get a CAT machine outside of your town hall. It's pretty ugly imo lol

he only does that if you're going to reset i think, but idk for sure because i have not done it before

dlc updates don't purge progress

literally no game ever does that to my knowledge
