Yeah that usually helps (don't play too advanced Japanese games at once though with a lot of kanji) and music/anime/film gets you a hang of pronunciations even a bit exaggerated

I like it, but it can be kind of tiring doing it alone it you don't practice with yourself though. I'd love to get to learn Japanese proper one day, but right now I'm in some busy parts of my life so..
