    Uh, I don't think I fully understand the extent of that question.

    The homework help thread is there for users to help other users with school/college-related questions, so it's by no means necessary if one doesn't have any questions to begin with, and it's also not necessary if a person would rather find their answers elsewhere. It's more of a convenience to (hopefully) get one-on-one help in a community of familiar faces :).
