Back in 1998, when I got Pokemon Red for Christmas, my immature brain made me choose Charmander as my starter because he was on the box cover, setting myself up a few hours of rage thanks to Misty and her water Pokemon.

Now I'm 22, and I still choose the Fire type Pokemon. Of course now I train them now instead just rushing in, but I also choose the Fire types now to show how manly I am.
