Izzit possie for me to get my fav villagers without buying amiibo card? And what is amiibo btw?

All villagers, except for the special NPCs (Sable, Tom Nook, etc) can be found in game without the cards. An amiibo are little figures (or cards, in this case) that you can scan onto certain games to have special features happen in game.
