    Also make sure you're not catching scallops too close to shore or to Kapp'ns boat as I've noticed Pascal won't pop up for me then either. Other reason was mentioned above about having space in your pockets.

    I don't think you can get it vertical. I think if you scan in certain amiibos they have different "abilities", but not sure what those would be. It's definitely possible to beat both levels of Story Mode without amiibo, since I've done it myself. It just takes some getting used to.

    No need to turn off your DS, just keep running around and try again. You can only receive one pwp request per day from villagers. You can change the date and try again if you wish, but keep in mind to talk to your villagers to see if anyone is moving if that is a concern.
