From the start! When you first began playing as your town's mayor, did you know what you were doing or were you only beginning to figure out all the neat new features of the game? I'd like to hear about the progress all you avid ACNL players out there have made since beginning your games. It can be anything from general town building to moving in all your favorite villagers to furnishing your house.

Feel free to post any caps that you've taken since you started to the present day.

I'm not sure if someone's already made a thread like this one. Sorry if there's something similar out there!

I had played all the other ac games, so I knew a lot about the game. After a couple of weeks, I started to get bored. I looked up dream towns online and found Aika village and a bunch of other cool dream towns. I had never thought to decorate my town or houses the way these people did. It really inspired me to make my town really nice.I wanted my town to be unique. One fun idea led to another. Creating unique themed houses made the game fun again.

I also learned how to keep villagers from moving and how to breed hybrids. I started creating fun areas in my town.Like a lemonade stand, ice skating rink, and tree farm. It's been almost two years and I'm still playing a little bit everyday. I have 5 towns and I love them all.My 5th town is a wip, but it has some unique areas in the town and the houses are coming along nicely.I made a rubber ducky bathroom, a Superman bedroom, Pacman kitchen, Bronco's living room, and a bunch of other fun rooms.

^The decorating is probably what I'm coming to love most about ACNL as well.

This is so inspirational! I will definitely make a point to check out your dream towns soon.

Oh boy, here we go. I can't resist posting on a topic like this x_x

It's been a while since I played in the first ever town I made in New Leaf, so I'm just going to talk about Everleaf instead.

I had a little town called Ivy Lane that I had been working on and blogging about almost a year or two ago, but due to school and work I stopped playing for a long period of time. When I came back to it one of my favorite villagers had moved, and I decided I was very unhappy with how everything looked (the layout, everything), and I decided to reset. So I gathered all of the items, bells, and hybrids I wanted to save, stored them in my sister's town, and spent a long time pre-planning my new town. I wanted to make sure I was perfectly happy with it, so I came up with a few name options (Everleaf was chosen by my friends), a theme (I wanted it to be a very medieval/fantasy type of town. Possibly with fairytale elements, but with an Elvish feel. I wanted the northern side to look more like a residential city, with the southern more like a forgotten forest), a list of dream villagers (one per personality, which left me with two open slots I've yet to fill right now), and a list of town layout features in order of "Must have without exception" to "I would prefer this, but I can live without it". I wanted things like: Apples as the town fruit, a simple river that left plenty of space on both sides of town, a waterfall at the bottom that faced the camera, for my town hall and retail to be near the station, and for my square to be either somewhat in front of the station, or on the southern side of town. I ended up getting almost all of the features I wanted within a few resets. I think the only thing I didn't get was my town square location, but I was happy with where it was all the same.

So for a while I just focused on storing saplings and flowers, unlocking shops, etc., and trying to get dream villagers. Luckily I had a second town, so I did a ton of cycling to get the ones I wanted. They were: Deirdre, Erik, Annalise, Julian, Merry, Bill, Gaston, and Skye (she wasn't one of my chosen dreamies, but she was in the town when I started and I loved her so much I switched my Normal dreamy with her! Unfortunately she moved recently without telling me, but I now have Tia to take her place).

I also spent a while gathering a wishlist of items I wanted for my houses. I made a plan for each, and though I'm still working on them, the first three are very close to being complete (the fourth I've been using to plot reset, so whether or not I decide to keep a fourth character I've yet to decide).

My Mayor- Elora- I based her home on like a forgotten Elvish temple/ruins sort of feel. (I don't have a lot of pictures).

Near Elora's house- also in the forgotten forest- is a darker castle inhabited by the wizard Markl. His rooms include a throne room, library, bedroom with the gorgeous set, and a magic room upstairs (I'm working on a ballroom and possibly haunted basement).

And then next to retail I have Ash's tavern, which is super cozy and one of my favorites so far. I'm redoing some of the rooms to make them look a little more like a World of Warcraft Inn :P

I have a lot of work to do in my town before I'm ready to fully show it off. I've been trying to farm PwP's lately, as I really want the Fairytale projects, as well as things like stonehenge, the statue fountains, the springs, etc. My villagers have been stubborn beyond belief, though u_u

AND SORRY FOR THE LONG POST. I won't lie, I love talking about my town and it's origins.

Well I made my first awful poopy town named Celestia when I first got the game. I didn't even map reset and I never plot resetted. It was the ugliest map in all the world. I achieved like 5 of my dreamies, unlocked everything, then I started visiting dream towns and realized everyone used paths. So then I tried to pave my town. But the layout was bad and the villager plots were bad so it looked terrible. I decided to reset. I thought I would regret it.

Then I reset for 2 days to get a certain map, well I never got it but I found the second best one, and so my current town Honeydew was born! I have 5 dream villagers in this town as well, BEAUTIFUL paths if I do say so myself, a wonderful layout, and I've almost unlocked everything I had before except the cafe. I've got my mayor Lauren, and two side characters (Belle & Aurora, the disney princesses.) So yeah I'm a little bit in love with my town hahah.

Okay, so my story isn't half as cute as some of these stories but here we go!

I first got involved into the AC series when I started playing Wild World, which I believed was literally the best game that had and ever would hit the earth. I was a lot younger and used to make my mum do the chores that Tom Nook used to set you at the beginning because I found them boring and just wanted to get into the gameplay. My mum made me return the favour by letting her fish and catch bugs for me to sell. I never played seriously, I didn't have dreamies, I didn't know any tips or tricks, I didn't have much money; tbh I didn't really know anything! But I was having fun, and that's all that mattered. I always used to enjoy resetting my game because I loved the thrill of a new town with new people and a new layout. I loved that game, and when Let's Go To The City (or City Folk, in most countries) was released, my love for AC continued. I still barely knew anything, and I couldn't stick with a town, but it actually helped me through a lot of tough times, such as my dad going away to Russia on business for six months, nearly moving to Russia and overall just the problems of RUSSIA :3

Then New Leaf came along and wow I was in love. My in-real-life AND in-game friend Jess (known on here as JellyBeans) found tbt and had an account, so I set one up too and had many a happy time scrolling through forums and never winning giveaways haha! I then lost that account (long story) and made this one, where I have had just as many happy memories! Now, in-game, I knew so much more; which obviously meant that I had to reset fifty-odd times for God-knows-why •~• anyway, I have made a Cara-record for my town at the moment, I have kept it for a lot longer than all of the others and I absolutely love it. I'm not very far with my town, but so far it is going great and I can't wait to have a beautiful town haha!

So yeah...that's my AC story <3<3<3

I have been waiting for a thread like this! Warning, long post ahead!

I have played other animal crossing games, I started with wild world then moved on to new leaf. I got New leaf and my 3ds for Christmas on the 25.12.13. My first town I believe was called Flowa with Mayor Misty but i was so happy to get into the game i picked a bad map and a bad house spot. I rest probably about 50 times to get Oakwood with Mayor Jessica and now I am happy with it! I have just gotten Molly for someone for free (she is a dreamie of mine) and I am plot resting here. As for my town, I love it so far! I think I went crazy with the plaza because it's surrounded with cedar trees to give it a forest feel. My town is base of the wonderful town North but of course I'm being original and just picking so ideas, not copying it block by block! I'm going for a Forest theme with all the players homes being places to visit (A cafe, A hotel and A spa) but keeping to the natural look (but not too natural! you don't want bugs crawling everywhere!)

However, here is the actual story surrendering my town again, LONG POST!

The story behind Oakwood

It was dark and stormy night in Oakwood, the only sound was the rain and the thunder as it crackle in the sky and crashed to the ground. Mayor Jessica was up, although it was around 10pm and everyone else was asleep. She sat on her white sofa drinking some tea she had made earlier when she heard voices outside, sounding too human to be the animal villagers. She sighed "Not thieves again, they can never leave my blue rose garden alone, can they?!" She got up and put her tea on the side table and put on her yellow welly boots and her brown coat. She grab her umbrella and a slingshot (for protection of course!) and carefully opened the door and went outside. To her surprise, it wasn't any thieves trying to steal from her (thank god) but what seemed to be a boy about her age (earlier 20's) standing under the bus shelter. Jessica smiled but her smile soon turned to a frown when she found that the boy seemed to be hurt. His clothes where dirty and torn , his orange hair messy and in knots, his green sleepy eyes had bags under them. Jessica sighed, she couldn't just leave him there, he would catch a cold or worse as he was wearing just a basic tee shirt and jeans. Jessica slowly approached the boy smiling and turned to him to speak "Are you lost? you look hurt, are you sure you are ok?" Jessica said worried that the boy might be ill. "Err, yeah... kinda," He started "The names Jeremy, I got in a little bit of a scrap between the border of your town and my old one. I ran away to be honest as life back there isn't nice and there isn't enough food to go around. I thought i would come to a town like this, a beautiful town filled with friendly smiling faces so i can have a fresh start! but so far, it has been really awful for me..." Jessica smiled "You poor little thing! Well you can't stand here in the cold! you need a place to stay... hmm, well I guess you can stay in my house if you like! We will go to the police station in the morning, does that sound good?"

Jeremy face lit up and he had a big smile on his face "Oh my gosh, thank you so much! Your so kind, I promise I'll try to be a great house guest!" Jessica chuckle and lead young Jeremy to her home "Oh, my name is Jessica, I'm the Mayor of this wonderful town!" Jeremy face turned form happy to shocked "You... You... You are the Mayor? Ah! I'm so under dressed, I look a messy and I am standing right in front of the Mayor, I feel like such a fool!" Jeremy started the panic. Jessica chuckled again "Don't worry about it, trust me I have seen worse!" They both burst out laughing. "Now come on, it is getting late, we better get to bed.." Jessica closed the door behind her and removed her boots while Jeremy didn't have any shoes so just wiped his feet on the door mat. "Where am i going to sleep? I can sleep on the couch if you want, I don't mind" Jeremy asked. "I have a spare room you can sleep in and i guess you need some clothes too, i have a few spare bits and pieces but they are a bit girly. But It is all I have so I guess it will have to do..." Jessica answered as she opened the drawer and gave Jeremy a pair of silk pj's. "Thank you, Jessica!" Jeremy smiled, he was so happy because this was the fresh start he has been dreaming about. Jeremy got ready and hoped into bed "I can't wait for tomorrow, so many thing to do!"
Jeremy yawned and slowly went to sleep, dreaming about his further in Oakwood.

Ah! I love this so much :P This is how Jeremy was born in my town, I'm thinking on doing one for everyone but Jeremy comes first (after my Mayor of course!) then Mike and finally Bella. If you want me to continue this let me know but I think it is long enough for now ^.^

well, I got this game and my 3DS as a late Christmas present from my friend. I got the game on the last day of December.
I wanted it ever since release, but I'm a broke loser. it's not my first Animal Crossing game, that was City Folk.

the town of Glitter is... well, it's chaos. the map would be considered not ideal by a lot of people. but whatever. I don't care. my town is my town and I'm not too fussed. it's a little bare and it'll never be anything compared to some people's towns. which I also don't care about. I let villagers come and go so I'll never be bothered with paths or anything like that, either. decoration around town is pretty minimal, but I like it that way. means I don't have to worry much about anything being destroyed. well, except trees, I suppose. but those are easy to replace, so that's really no issue. my town is still a big work in progress, as I still have very little choice in terms of pwps. but I don't use any trick to get more requests or anything like that, so whatever. I'm pretty patient anyway. it's at least slightly less empty looking than it used to be! I'm pretty pleased, honestly.

I can say that I do often wish I'd actually thought about the map choices... I didn't at all. but ugh, I'm anything but tempted to reset. :/ I've just done too much, and starting over wouldn't be worth it. I'd lose my bffs Tammy and Clay and it'd upset me. I could possibly reset someday in the far future, but I'd rather work hard to make the best of what I've already got. even if it does have a few too many ponds, that being the biggest flaw.

Okay, my animal crossing new leaf story *cracks knuckles*

First town: TBH, my first town was a poop pile. I had Mayor Kathy, and Bill. I believe my town was called Forrest. I thought it was wonderful, but then my gamecard broke. Now I have Marzipan, with Mayor Puff <3

My first town was a New Leaf town. I named it Mapleton and my mayor was called Mira. But I had no idea what I was doing, so I ended up with a bad map and decided to reset.
My current town is Lux and the mayor is Marigold. I had one thing in mind when I started the town: Being myself. I'm kinda like this hippie, witchy, occult-y type person and I love trees. So Marigold is a hippie and Lux is going to be a forest :D

I got my game on 31st Dec. I was playing WW before and took a long break. Anyway I knew about some of the games features and wanted a good map but I also really wanted to start playing on the 31st Dec to get the special item. I wanted a natural looking town and chose the name Everleaf. It doesn't have a story as such, it's evolved a little bit because it started with a pink craze (pink hair pink house) but now I want it to have a zen / alpine forest look with lots of cedar trees and bushes.

I never set out to 'landscape' it but I'm very OCD when it comes to symetry and colours so I'm developing my town at a good pace.

I also love the online interaction. I never went online with WW but I love this feature with NL.

And 3 months down the line my son gets his own copy of the game (seeing me play and having so much fun with it) so now we play together :)

I have pretty awesome villagers, and all my residents have 'food' names: Plum, Basil and Juniper.

When I got my first copy I went blazing in with little to no knowledge about the game. (Let's just say for starters I didn't know fruit stacked into a basket the first few months I was playing...) I did all the rookie mistakes, picking the first map, answering all the questions politely for the normal face against my knowledge, EATING MY FIRST PERFECT FRUIT, selling stuff to the Nooklings.... I was a noob galore, but then I bought the Prima guide and then I was an ACNL boss. (Well kinda) I taught my friends all sorts of new things about it that they didn't even know! So I felt pretty awesome after that. I played for a while on my first copy, still not super savvy to many of the things, I didn't really talk to or play with anybody but my two IRL friends who rarely played. So I ended up losing interest. When I tried getting back into it, thanks to tumblr posts from people who played, with their awesome landscaping and cool clothes. I started to re-do my whole town and make it a true "dream town" so to speak. But then I started playing Art Academy and Tomadotchi life, and tragically lost my first copy, I was pretty heart broken because I had just gotten back into it. SO I did what any addict would do, and bought a second copy. This time around I got an OK map, (still didn't know about restarting for a better one) and got a lot of my dreamies, I went for a similar theme to my first town, even though when I started I was going to do a fall themed town... that fell through and I went back to the pink theme my first town had, even got a similar path in my town. Got a lot of my dreamies, but still didn't know/care about plot resetting until I had already built all four houses and poured too much money in it to care... Still a work in progress but I got way farther than I got in my first town. After finally, after months, finding my old town I traded over all my un-orderables, stole all my hybrids, and cataloged all my old furniture to my knew town. I thought first of just making it a cycling town, but decided I wanted more-so to do the fall town that I had previously planned so I reset. This time starting over a few times until I found a perfect map, even started with a perfect fall fruit (apples) and just about everything in the town was perfect. I decided to start it as a Halloween/OTGW themed town and have been picking away at it. Even doing my very first plot reset the other day!

tl;dr: It's night and day playing now with the knowledge I've gathered than from how I started out! And I feel like even further in the future I will have even better ACNL skills and I'll look back at what I've done now and laugh.

I got into the AC series when I was five and ACCF was all the rage. My dad was coming home from a out of state business trip and he saw that game and thought I would like it so he bought it for me. I liked it at first but then I couldn't figure out how to sell to make bells. Flash forward to when I was 7 and I all of a sudden found out how to finally sell! I then went on my own path, playing with only one friend here and there until I came upon another community like this called ACC. I order from lots of giveaway and was making so many bells and completing all my houses/paths that I was almost satisfied except for the fact that I didn't play enough to keep my flowers alive so I filled my town with golden roses.

Flash forward to 2013, I got the game on its release date and I immediately started planning what I would design my town like. It was at first a lovely town and all but then I went on a 2 week hiatus and I came back and someone moved out and another villager moved in blocking a path from my house/the plaza to the station. I decided after a week of thought that I would restart my town and so I did. That is how Abstract was born, a new blossoming town that I am so proud of! I made sure that I had a good map and everything just so I wouldn't run into conflict later on. There is a spot that I sorta hate at the top left corner of my town where it is a horizontal strip of land. I some how made it work and look okay!

Glad I can share my story and if you ever want to hear more (Theres a lot more) you can always VM me!

Well...let's just say I can't remember because a mum let a certain child/teen drink beer/wine thingy. And it's midnight.
So it was lovely and well set out...then I joined here and ran out of space so I threw stuff on the ground and squashed furniture up.

It was my own special village :'( -_-

well, i played AC when i was younger, but i would time travel a lot and be genuinely scared of my villagers' anger.

that being said, when i got ACNL, i vowed to play every day... and i was kind of a newbie at it.
while i did play every day for MONTHS, i knew nothing about the finer mechanics of the game.

now i finally know what i'm doing, and i have reason to play and reason to improve and develop my town. funsies.

Brooklyn, my first town, was horrible. I was stupid and built it on a thin strip of land by a river.

starting out my game wasn't so bad, i think. like i did so twice already since i got it early this year. i only had a vague idea of what i was doing because prior to getting the game i had friends who were already really into it, so technically i had some help haha. town building was p tedious though, like rover never let choose between maps that i liked and i ended up "settling" twice for long periods of time- eventually causing me to restart. ;_;

oh!! and i didn't know about plot-resetting HAHA i had lucky as a random move in after lolly which made me really happy like wow this game is giving me cute villagers wow !!! but then...during smug villager move in day (i didn't know i could plot reset on that day to get a different villager of that type esp for uchis and smugs who are fewer than other villagers) LONG STORY SHORT, chops moved in...... D|

i have some ideas for how i want the houses and rooms to go though, like, now that i'm setting up to start again. it's been done before ofc, but i really like ghibli movies so i might make characters/rooms/houses after some of the films! i'll probably start with whisper of the heart because it's the easiest and will apply most to my mayor (the protag's clothes are hella cute and the furniture is super easy to decide on too)
