Hey guys, I was just wondering how some of you came up with the names for your other characters? I have myself, and I'm definitely going to make my boyfriend. I'm completely stuck on who I want my two other characters to be, though, and I need them for paths! I don't really have any friends I want to make residents of my town, so I'm kinda stuck on what to do!
How did you guys come up with the names for your other characters? Are they people you know? Friends? Family? People from shows/movies? Looking to get my creative juices flowing! :)

sometimes i name them after anime characters bc im weeaboo trash sorry
I sometimes just google girl's names until I find one I like. I also like to name them after flowers, like my side characters Lilac and Sakura (◡‿◡✿)
If you have OC's, you can name them after them! You can also give them names that match your town theme. In my second town Galaxia, one of my characters is Serenity, and my mayor is Luna.
Good luck~

My secondary characters' houses are facilities (library, gym, etc.) so I named them after their "occupation".

I had four characters in my previous town~ myself, my husband, and our two cats. ^.^

I named mine after some of my favorite re-occurring NPCs from the Final Fantasy series: Cid and Biggs! Wedge will come soon, no doubt, but I have my hands full with the three of them at the moment!

I make up characters all the time. Though when I make other characters for my town I'll probably make one based off Officer Berri, my character, and the other based off another I made named Mocha. Then I'll probably make up a guy character to have at least one guy in town maybe. That or make a girl based on one of my other Animal Crossing OCs.

Or I might just make versions of OCs I have for other stuff.

I have for as long as I can remember always been creating many different characters from my imagination since at a very young age and for my passionate love for drawing :) When it came to playing ACNL for the first time, I had a very easy time on creating the designs I had in mind for them clothes wise and house wise but it was also at the same time very hard for me because I had so many characters in mind at the time I wanted to choose from that I didn't know who to start with lol

My main Mayor is named "Diana" She was one of the very first characters I have ever created during my childhood years. Why Diana? Personally, all I remember is just choosing it. It isn't fancy, but when you name a character, there is always more of a meaning behind it to you then it may be for others, despite fanciness. I never usually had based a character off of myself at the time due to sheer un-creativity I shroud myself in as I usually envision myself as a character to be nothing more than a "Plain Jane" I felt that a character who is close to me in personality would suffice. I love variety, so I guess I found it easier to just portray other characters insetad rather than myself back then. As for the other three. I pretty much just made them up on a whim haha. It resulted in much boredom and prior to the main 3 characters I currently have now, I had once 3 other different characters who I have made up before hand but then had gotten rid of due to my lack of available to attend to all of them during that time. Before I knew it, I only found myself creating more since I needed more room for QR codes anyways haha

I had designed another character who I went by as my own "identity" with that being with the nickname "Scorpia" I pretty much grew out of that old "Plain Jane" stuff and had decided to create an avatar based upon myself in a way that I felt portrayed me without being "boring" I choose the name "Scorpia" as a more feminine version of "Scorpio" which is my astrology sign I am born under.

My other two characters are boys, and I had simply made them up on the spot as I had said prior. My one character is named "Prince" while the other is "Orion" I usually like to give a backstory to my characters through their homes d?cor. I will usually tell a story for each of them through the many rooms within the home, to display who they are, what they like, etc. I feel a theme personally helps other people who visit my town coordinate with my characters to get a deep understanding as to how I envisioned them and why I wanted to create them :)

Let your mind just flow and see what comes to mind! You never know, you may actually create a character that you might be very proud of! That's what the fun of creating a character really is to me. It's the sheer endless possibilities that you can mold just from the very thoughts you conjure up from your mind. Whether they make sense or not, that is the joy of it I feel :)

One is a variation on my name, another is a variation on my cat's name, and the other is just a flower name to go with my other floral named character. The mayor is my boyfriend so it's his initials. That's why I use my initials as my TBT username!;)

I had been planning for a second character for a long time and I didn't really know what to name him, but I just stuck with an anime name Ryuu. I might just completely scrap that character since I wasn't really going for Japanese :(

I can make up entire characters on the spot, all with their own names, backgrounds, and personalities. It's a gift I'm not particularly fond of having. Random names and personalities just come to me from time to time, and I can either choose to work with them or just ignore them.

Shax took a few months to develop, as he was based on just the name alone. Sucre took all of a couple hours to develop. And Dour, my newest character, probably took like 30 minutes to develop.

I've played a lot of Nintendo games/PC games and if there's an NPC that has a good name, I usually alter it a little bit or spell it differently..usually it turns out pretty good.

For example, Banjo Kazooie has a baby giant eagle that people probably don't pay much attention to, and his name is Eyrie and I thought that was cute but I've altered that name when making characters in the past on PC games or whatever. Haven't been using it lately.

I'm a median system so I named one of them after my headmate. The other one is his brother and the town is supposed to represent the place they live in in my headspace.

I gave my secondary character in my first town my irl name, since I gave my mayor the name Illyana.
In my second town the mayor is Daenerys and the side character is Cersei. I was binge watching GoT when I made that town, obv.

I always do my first name, and usually middle name too and Samwise is because the town is Hobbiton. In Eternia they're all named after dogs. Gypsy is my current one, Barney was my last one and Lana was a special one we looked after and she felt like one of our own.

You've probably assumed this, but my mayor's name, Earth, is just my nickname. No big deal there.

The others, on the other hand, are all OCs of mine from writing- and each one of them is from Labryth, thus being the reason why I used them. Maxwell, Krystal and Raul are all major characters, so, as I feel I know them pretty well, I used AC to develop their personalities further and build their houses how each of them would.

I just tend to pick random names that I like for my AC characters. I try to keep them general names that could work with most themes, so I won't have to worry about them no longer fitting if I change my mind about my theme or what to do with their houses.

I decided what to do with their houses based on what I wanted as decoration in my town. For a really long time they just had basic houses since I used them to hold patterns and items for the most part, especially my third character. If you'd like a specific type of place in your town that doesn't have a PWP (for example, some people make schools or hotels) you could do that. You could also just use it as a place to put sets or other items that you like that don't necessarily fit the other characters' houses.
