Oh, that's a pretty cool idea actually!
My island currently only has two palm trees on it for beetle catching purposes..
And I fear it'll have to stay that way since I'm almost always broke.
But I would love to see pictures of people who've done something nice with their island.

I've wondered what players do with their islands - I've done very little as yet - I've covered middle with flowers - all the white ones are together so I see & catch orchid mantis more easily, left one tree in the middle, & tweaked the palms (still have around 7).
Ideas I've thought of - a path in the middle - either with flowers of one colour or burrying shells, maybe make more use of bushes (those that you can buy on the island).
Bring over hybrids (wear the flower in your hair to do this).
Maybe make a pretty pattern with the flowers/use only certain colours.
Not really much else you can do?

I've been trying to landscape my island. I'm waiting for silver axe to show up so I can try and get stump patterns. I know it's not 100% on fruit trees, but I'm hoping it increases the odds. Or if you can even get a stump pattern on the island I don't know. I can't find info about that. My island only has 1 regular tree on it, because my cousin came over when she first got the game, and she started chopping down trees to maximize beetle hunting, not realizing the island doesn't reset. Since it's my only one I don't want to chop it down.
You can bring hybrids over to the island, just wear them when you go over, and then plant them there.

My island only has palm trees for beetle hunting. Problem is, at the moment I'm too lazy to farm any beetles so my island will probably be bare for a really long time. Maybe one day in future if I finish decorating my town, I will make it look pretty, but that's a long way off yet.

Mine was designed to catch beetles AND to be stylish. I planted a bajillion trees and cut over half of them down. Most were cut down so you could see and access the other ones, but a whole section on the beach was made to catch sea snails.
Yup you can get patterns, cuz I went to a friend's island and she had them. I'm waiting for the stupid axes too. I've always only bought them online to use in my town, I don't think they've ever shown up in my island store. I plan on buying a bunch, as I don't know how long it'll take me to get the patterns I want. I might have to chop and plant a few trees to rechop...

I don't really go there too much though anymore, except right now for the stupid axes...so IDK if it's really worth the trouble. :/

I got a creative pattern using the rental axe. Silver axes are guaranteed to make creative designs but use a Gold axe for the first two hits, then a Silver axe.
To be honest I'd never really thought about decorating my island, I just use it for hunting beetles. Actually makes me sad that is all I think it should be used for.
I need to buy some bushes and plant extra trees and flowers. I didn't even think about wearing hybrids and bringing them over to the island as well. I hope I find some silver axes so I can have some creative stump patterns too.

I made a heart shape with flowers in mine. Also I was lucky to get a heart shape in a tree stump. Here is a picture from where I first made it. I changed the trees and bushes a bit from then. Also in my second town, I made a bit mario shape, i think it is cool looking!

On my island I have a lot of palm trees on the beach, then I grew 2 trees and cut them as stumps to make them as chairs, then I have some red hibiscus bushes and a lot of red roses, then I just have baskets of fruit around the chairs to make it some what like a picnic XD

I never got to experience that in GameCube Animal Crossing (even though I played a lot) so I really wish it was like that!
