After buying 4 packs of amiibo and not getting any of the villagers I really wanted I'm thinking about trying trading to trade them out for villagers I want.
But I'm a bit nervous about doing it and would like to hear about the experiences of others.
What's been your experience if you've traded on here? Also have you ever traded elsewhere like: https://www.reddit.com/r/amiiboSwap/ 2 things hold me back from doing it: having to give out my address, and the possibility that i might send a valuable card to someone and they simply won't send one in return. I'd just really like to hear the experiences of others before I dive in. Thanks in advance :)

I have not used reddit trading service but I have heard that people are good there but some arent. The problem is that unlike TBT, there isnt a rating system for bad users so you're basically yoloing. Here, you can see who is trustworthy. I have only been scammed once and all the otger traders here have been good. I'd give it a shot and if it would make you feel better, you could always do one card at a time so if you do get scammed you wont be short 3 cards or something.

In my experience, trading cards on here is super fun and a great way to finish your collection. There are waaaay more good apples and than bad ones.

I've had nothing but good experiences with trading cards here on tbt. Everyone's been generous and helpful. I particularly like that most traders here with threads show their completed and pending trades - makes me feel comfortable to know that others have received/sent their cards and you can see who is trustworthy without having to look at WiFi ratings. Although I do look there too if I haven't noticed them trading before. :D

I've heard good and bad stories on reddit. I personally haven't used it for trading and don't think I will. Seems like there are quite a few trolls on there? I'll just stick to trading here and buying a few on ebay if needed.

Oh, I agree with crash ^
Sending pics with tbt name on the side is a good idea too!

I've never traded personally, as I've only ever purchased two packs from series 1 when they first came out, but I know there are some really great people on here. <3 The Bell Tree is probably the nicest forum I've ever been on. Everyone's so pleasant to each other and generally nice.

Traded here and on ACC board. I've never traded on Reddit.
I've done trades for Series 1 to 4 and only had one problem. Got another person cards but it was easy to fix.
I've never lost any cards during a trade and all the cards arrived in perfect condition.

Recommend this board first.

I've only traded here on TBT for cards, and only a few times. I've never had any issues. But I only traded people with a lot of posts and/or good WiFi ratings. There were some users with very low post counts who tried to initiate trades with me a few times, but I never traded with them because I worried about being scammed.

I've had a few bad trades, but out of probably over a hundred, so while it can happen I think it's really rare. I agree with what others have said; look for traders with experience, and limit the number of cards you send to a trader you haven't traded with before. You may want to limit trades to your country to keep postage low until you're more comfortable. 99% of the time it's a great experience and I could never have completed 1-4 without trading here!

Never had a bad trade on here or on reddit. I will say this from experience..don't do too many at once or have a good system to keep track. Sometimes I worry I didn't mail a trade but I'll always make sure a person gets their promised card.

I don't use reddit. I'm a total internet geek, but just don't quite get reddit's format or how to use it. Perhaps with a little more effort I would get there.

On The Bell Tree forum, and in the amiibo card trading Facebook group, I have done a handful of trades. Not a ton, but I would guess around 10. Each one has gone as planned.

I do like the feedback system here on TBT. Feedback ratings will typically help you figure out who you're dealing with. Be it on the buyer end, or seller end. Maybe not exactly, but it'll give you a good idea. I can't imagine somebody taking the time to build up a strong forum reputation on TBT forums, just to steal a card or two from someone else a month or two later.

The thing about trading these cards, is honestly, none of them are THAT valuable. Individually. Other than the 2 Japanese-only CP promo cards, these cards are like a dollar or two in value, at the most. So to go through all the trouble of setting up a deal just to scam someone for a buck or two, just isn't worth it. And on the other hand, IF, and this is a big if, but if you were to have someone not follow through, and they took your couple cards, you're really only losing out on a buck or two. The principal of someone doing that would certainly be very irritating to say the least, but what you're actually losing out on isn't very much.

So that's why I feel safe doing these trades, specifically on TBT forum, and shipping (and receiving) these without tracking numbers. Unlike high value eBay items that I buy, or something expensive on Amazon, I always want tracking information.

And also my advice, don't worry about giving out your address. If you're under 16, I would ask my parents first just so they don't get mad at you for not asking, but someone who is attempting to trade low value amiibo cards isn't going to come to your house stalk you :p Whatever horror movies or media outlet that's stirring up the idea that the internet is full of monsters & criminals is pretty inaccurate. Just like anywhere, there's sure to be some bad apples here or there, but the major majority of it is people like us.

Make some trades, have some fun. It's exciting when the package/envelope does show up, anyone else who's traded will attest to this. I completed series 1 doing this and am looking forward to getting all the rest soon!

don't do too many at once or have a good system to keep track.

I also like this advice. I too, had just 3-4 trades going all at one time, and got myself confused with who was sending what, from where. I even contacted the wrong person when I thought their cards arrived, but theirs hadn't. I got it all straightened out & everything worked out, but it's a good idea to make sure you're keeping close track of what's going where. Wouldn't that be a shame to ship the wrong cards to the wrong people :)

I'll always make sure a person gets their promised card.

And this as well. Do your best to ship promptly! On the receiving end once, a trade partner took forEVER to ship theirs to me. And I waited around for quite a while, unsure of what was going on. It did arrive eventually, but he took a long time to ship it & I didn't think that was very polite.

I've used Reddit for one trade and ended up not receiving the card in return...I'm sure it could just have been a one off bad experience but it put me off going on there.
There's a lot of trading groups on Facebook that are quite good, I've done 3 or 4 trades on there so far. I've done the most on here and had no problems so far other than cards being a bit delayed either my end or theirs.
There's no guarantee when trading of course, you've just got to trust the person to be decent. Most people I've found are very friendly and trustworthy. I had over 30 WA card doubles and managed to trade every one successfully

Oh and being patient is important of course. I did a trade with somebody recently, I received their card the next day, they didn't get my card until a week later despite us posting the same time. Delays do happen. And I guess things getting lost in the list happen too. I've posted all the way to Australia with no problems but it's always a possibility. If my cards were to get lost in the post I would always offer some sort of compensation and I would hope the other person would do the same.

I've done over fifty trades, both here and on Reddit, and been scammed once. All the users who are saying that Reddit has no ratings system aren't exactly right; when you complete a trade, you and your trade partner both comment that you received the cards, and then you make a thread in a separate points board and the mods check it out and award you one point of "flair" for each successful transaction. The issue with this system is that it's extremely backed up, so it can take a month or longer for the mods to actually award points. But if you only swap with users who have a high amount of flair, you are unlikely to be scammed. Many Reddit users have guidelines like "lower flair ships first," which is another safeguarding practice that unfortunately wouldn't really benefit you much when you're starting out. On Reddit, they also generally exchange photo proof of the cards. I was scammed one time, but it could have been avoided if I hadn't given a zero-flair user with no previous posts the benefit of the doubt. And honestly, I've had so much fun trading that the one scam is not nearly bad enough to make me regret being generally trusting.

I would just advise you to ask for proof any time there's a red flag, and once you have experience in a community, to request that newer users send cards first if you're really worried about scamming. For my part, I never would have finished my collection if I'd stuck to this forum only.

I've had a pretty positive experience, only 2 trades went bad where I never got the cards I was promised and I kept messaging them about it but they said they sent them so it was likely the post office, or them writing an incorrect address. The other I got the envelope they sent with no cards inside... the envelope wasn't opened but the cards were just... gone? I don't know what happened there. But yeah all of my other trades have gone smoothly besides those. Just be sure you go for people with good ratings and you can look at their ratings and see if they're for card trades or not cause people will say like "thanks for the cards"

I've only ever traded once from TBT and it's been a really pleasant experience.

I traded with the user Wiim. She has lots of cards and packages them really nicely so there's no way they'd ever arrive damaged. I would thoroughly recommend her!
