Recently, Lionel was thinking about moving out to a different town. I've been getting bored with having the same villagers in my town for such a long time, so I became determined let any villager leave when they want, even if I didn't want them to leave.

Lionel is my second favourite current villager and I wanted him to stay, so I made sure to talk to him daily. The day before he was supposed to go into boxes, he mentioned about moving again and I told him it was ok to move, but he thankfully decided to stay :)

So, has anyone else here let villagers make up their own mind on whether to leave, while secretly wishing they would stay?

Sounds like a true test of friendship. But no, I wouldn't want to risk my favourite villagers leaving.

I did that with Katt. I needed her to move to make room for Kyle but I loved her. She did end up moving and I miss herrr but I have Deirdre as my uchi now.

Well, I was going to let Poppy move because I needed to get rid of 3 of my 4 normals. But... When her moving date came up she wasn't in boxes, but told me she had decided to stay because she had talked to one of my side characters (I only talked to her once from that one, and told her to move, and she even said "yeah i'm going to miss you", but I guess she changed her mind without telling me..?)

She moved around a month later anyway, but I was kind of happy that she didn't move right there and then because I had let many villagers move and I started feeling disconnected to my villagers...

Interestingly, I'm in the same position and decided that I would let anyone go who decided to go, and it was Lionel who asked first. I was hoping he would decide to stay anyway, but today he's in boxes. :(

Anicotti asked to leave the other day. I said sure, but she stayed anyways. I would've been a little sad if she had gone, but I thought I might as well.

I've tried to let some of mine go before, but I always end up changing my mind and asking them to stay :') but then half the time, if I miss like 2 days, my favourites move even though no one tells me (looking at you, Marshal and Molly) and the ones I tell to go decide to stay for ages

Drift did that... twice :'D

Once he said he's gonna leave and i said ok, but then i talk to him before the date he move and he changed his mind. Just like what Lionel did to you.
The 2nd time he decided to move and on the D-day (where he should already in boxes), I saw him wandering in town and he said he decided to stay.

I guess he loves my town so much :P

no, they're not real people, they're part of a computer program. they're programmed to ask to move regardless of your friendship level; if you want them to stay you should tell them to stay.
