Xbox One Gameplay Lags When Steam in Open on my Computer?

I was watching my sister play Overwatch on the Xbox One and as soon as I open Steam her game starts lagging. The second I close it it stopped. I tried the test again and the same exact thing happened. Now we don't have the latest and greatest routers that have several antennas and I don't know if the router itself is the issue or not. Could it be my router or some other issue?

Steam saps a fair bit of bandwidth. I try to turn off wifi or switch wifi networks when I'm playing Overwatch to get a seamless experience.

The reason why that happens is because Steam updates the moment you open it. Then, it syncs up all your game's savedata and updates your games. Then, it will update all your steam workshop items like from Garry's mod. So, there a ton of updating occurs when you open steam.

Ah, thank you very much guys! According to a post somewhere someone said it's possible to limit the bandwidth downloads use up so maybe I'll have a looksie.
