Wrong Date! Will my town be ruined if I change it?

I don't know when this happened, but I realised my town is a year behind, so I've unknowingly been playing in 2017 for some time! I have hybrids and paths and some neighbours I feel really attached to, is there anything I can do to keep my town the exact same if I change the date to 2018, aka, keep my hybrids (idk if they die if you change the date by a year!), keep my neighbours, ect??

enforce the perfect town ordinance if you can. the villagers will water and plant flowers for you, weeds will rarely grow, and there won't be any more cockroaches. after it's set in, go to the correct time and see if everything's normal. i left acnl for about half a year and came back as i would normally with the exceptions of weeds and everyone asking where i went with it.

logging on for the first time in almost a couple years, my 3ds was somehow set to january 1st 2011?? i set it back to 2018 and everything was alright! no one moved away, everything was in its place and there were just some weeds c:

-Okay, first things first. Whatever you do, make sure to enact the Beautiful Town ordinance right away. That'll completely prevent your flowers from dying and you'll only end up with a small handful of weeds and clovers at the end.

-Start off by TTing a day or two at a time, no more. Walk past all your villagers each jump until someone pings that they want to move. Refuse them, then you can save, quit, and finally change everything to the correct time.

I think what happens if you don't play for a while or charge it is the battery gets too drained and resets to the original default date. My 3DS date was way out of whack when I first booted it up to play ACNL in April (I didn't have a town yet), and I hadn't played it since fall 2016 and hadn't charged it for roughly the same amount of time.
