Does anyone else’s game actually hate them?
I SWEAR I have the worst luck ever with villagers it’s almost laughable. I know each to their own but I’ve just got the most average villagers moving in... Leopold... kitt... ken!?

why does my game hate me!

At first, I hated all my random move-ins. Anabelle, Ken, Egbert.. I really wasn't happy at all when I saw who was moving in. But I ended up liking them a lot. Maybe I've just become a lot less "shallow" in this game than I was previously in New Leaf, but I decided to let the game just flow and whether I like the character or not, I just try to make the most of it, and most of the time, I end up really loving the animals. So try to give them a chance if you can! If not, I hope you can take comfort in knowing that their stay isn't permanent if you don't want it to be. And you could always go island hopping to find a villager you can tolerate, even love, to invite instead of leaving it up to chance!

I ran into a lot of popular villagers (Zucker, June, Merengue and Ankha to name a few) the last two times I went island hopping but I haven't had any luck finding any of my dreamies while island hopping.

I guess I can't say I'm unlucky because I have encountered quite a few sought after villagers but they are just not the ones that I want.

Due to personal reasons jocks can make me very uncomfortable if they look too sporty. So of course my starting villagers had to be Scoot and Rocket. Because apparently my game hates me so much it had to pick the most jock-looking sister in addition to the dang duck. That's not even taking into account that ducks and gorillas are two of my least favorite species.

The campsite and randoms have been kind to me so far though.

I've had lots of luck but I've somehow managed to get the only villager I have a genuine issue with (trigger wise.) to move in, twice! He's fine, I think, but for personal reasons a big mental problem for me and it was horrid seeing Coach in my island everyday TwT

Have you tried doing some island hopping when you have an empty plot of land? If you do it before anyone has randomly moved in (i.e. on the first day the house is empty) then each mystery island will have a villager on and you can cycle through islands until you find one you like. Avoids the random move-ins which you can get unlucky on :)

Same tbh, I haven't even heard of most of my villagers before. I wish I had my ACNL luck, I got so many good villagers there from the moment I started the game in both of my towns

Yeah, as Epod said, you can always try to island hop to find villagers you may want to invite. No guarantee that you'll necessarily find your dreamies on the first few tries, but it at least gives you a bit more control over which villagers you'll let in, rather than spinning the wheel and letting the game pick random villagers for you. Just know that the house plot will stay open for only the day that it's freed up. If you let the next day roll over without filling it on your own, then the game will autofill it with a random

I usually like most say island hop, but recently been buying my dreamies to fill spaces. I rarely relay on random move ins :(

Yeah I’ve been island hopping but I also have bad luck doing that too 😭😂 I don’t think I’ll ever find my dreamies! Although I put a plot down today and got Cheri who is kinda cute so I invited her and then put another plot down but now there’s none spawning on the islands so I’m worried I’ve screwed it and I’ll get another random! 😂😂

Oh, yeah I think you can only invite via island once a day after you've had the first camper (I do recall being able to invite both Filbert and Olive towards the start of the game on the same day and the game filled their plots once I furnished them). That plot you laid down after inviting Cheri might get filled by the game (I've had people in my AC group chat find that out the hard way when they laid down all 4 of their plots in one day). What I did was I laid only one house plot down each day after I got my first camper to move in. That ensured that I would be able to have more control over the last 4 move-ins and I wouldn't get caught off-guard by any surprises the game would throw at me, since the game had no empty plots to autofill. I'm not sure if you have anymore plots to lay down after that one, but I hope that helps!

If you play online, a lot of your random move-ins will be from the void, which is almost always a unwanted villager.

My first random move in was Nate, so I understand lol. I solved that problem by pushing him out via amiibo. My other rando was Dom. I was indifferent but now kinda attached.

To try to get the least amount of random move ins, make sure to have only 1 plot available at a time where you have enough nook mile tickets to island hop for someone you actually like. If you have too many or opened a plot on a moving in day of someone else, I believe a random will move in because you currently can't island hop due to the current move in. And when a villager has left, you have 24 hours to island hop for a villager of your choice before a random moves in from the void (like villagers who left your friends town who they kicked out that didn't get adopted by someone else).

I guess luck with getting villagers would be subjective, since everyone has different preferences on which villagers they like or dislike. In my case, the ones I have seen from island hopping were not the ones I would be fond of. So I guess my luck hasn't been the best in that case.

However, in terms of luck in other aspects, my luck with fishing has been awful. I've only gotten lucky once by finally getting the mahi-mahi after a few attempts, but I swear I have used over 300 fish bait now to try and get the giant trevally, golden trout and barreleye to no avail. :(

Ken looks alright... wouldn’t keep him around for very long but, y’know... at least he’s not ugly XD
