Worried about Doppleganger at CT

Hey everyone!

So I don't know where to post this.. but I've had the most.. unusual/scary experience with a hacker. I come to the Club Tortimer Island and there was an ACTUAL CLONE of my character. Literally everything, my appearance, my badges, name, town name, everything! (wasn't sure about the dream code) So I'm worried now if this person tries to insult other players or do other harmful interactions to others under my name and everything.. I'm super worried right now. I don't want other players to think that I'm this character! If you see a player named Cody from Freedom on there for the rest of the night on the island.. please know that it isn't me as I'll be offline for the rest of the night!! I just really don't want others to think that I am that person!

Disclamier: This is not a post degrading everyone who may hack New Leaf, there are great people who use hacks and in no way is saying that everyone who hacks New Leaf is a bad person whatsoever, that's silly. This is just a post about how someone used hacks to ruin the game experience for me and possibly others.

possibly a glitch from a slow internet connection no hacker could change a complete profile the second they met you. I've seen things like this before some lag on CT showed people's mayors still on the island long after it said "someone is leaving". If you have screenshots to prove this happened that would be helpful too.

I may be right about my first theory unless he/she
moved around normally (like a mayor usually walks/runs not clipping in and out of things because lag does that)

Thank you for your response. I don't have my DS on me now, but I'm not 100% sure that I took the picture as I wasn't really worried about this at the time until I thought more deeply about it. And he actually did speak to me and said "I've changed my whole look to match you. I'm obsessed with you"

I'm so scared, I don't think I'll be able to sleep tonight.. :'( I'm really worried.

I honestly have no idea how they did that or why they?d do that, but i?m sure it was just someone trying to scare you and get a reaction from you. I?ve had a scary experience online recently, although not on CT, but I couldn?t sleep afterwards either. But after a few days when nothing else came from it, I realised it wasn?t as scary as I thought and just some pathetic person with nothing better to do than try to scare people! I?m sure that just what this person was doing and I bet he?s been doing it to everyone that joins the island, he probably wouldn?t have been targeting you specifically. Anyway, that?s just what I tried to tell myself after my scary experience! I hope you feel better soon!

You're lucky that was one of your bad experiences. I am so angry at myself that I didn't take a screenshot. First a precious hacker deleted some of my gold tools now this?! Yup, no more club tortimer for me. EVER. I only went there for the exclusives anyway. Do you think I have anything to be concerned about? It is 3 am here, I'm laying in bed trying to sleep and am just so worried about this individual!

It was most likely a temporary hack ,like the giant flowers, the doppleganger look probably went away when he/she left the island.

simfan96 - you look as if you are online still - your reputation, he can't harm that - as said he/she is probably cloning anyone who comes to the CT island they are on, just to get a reaction.
If you trade/play in other players towns then you have a feedback system via the board and tell everyone, as you are doing.

What you say happened is certainly not pleasant, a new development, the first time I've seen it mentioned.

where the players on the CT island were warped back to their own towns - the hacker went back to his town, but it looked as if he was in the other players town, to that player.
The permanent damage was the loss of whatever was in the players inventory when they went to the CT island - hence the loss of the gold tools in your case - I hope you have had them replaced by another player? Hope so.

This time again I would take it the hacker has copied your profile but it cannot as far as I can make out from what the hacker has said in the reddit thread, affect your town - ie your town is protected by the Nintendo servers CT islands are on and the friend code system. The worry/fear is if that barrier can be broken at some point.

Don't worry about your reputation, I would take it that is fully intact.

Thank you very much. I don't know why other players do this to others, it's not right. It was when I was coming to the island, immediately I saw the clone of myself. This was one of the islands I was on while I was island hopping. I'm just hoping he can't access my friends list or anything like that now that I think of it.. thank you for writing me this. I thought that's what the case was it would certainly explain the Rental Net that was still in my inventory.

Thank you so much for telling me not to worry about my reputation. I'm just worried this person will say something horrible to someone under my name. I just don't want anything like that to happen. I didn't even know this was possible. Thanks again for all of that information, I really appreciate it!

It could've just been an odd coincidence. We all have a doppelganger somewhere on Earth. If I found my doppelganger on Club Tortimer, I'd just laugh it off.

The same thing has happened to me recently. I get to the island and someone else has my same appearance and TPC and everything. This has happened on two separate towns of mine, so I?m assuming they?re not ?keeping? your character/town. (e.g. pretending to be you off the island) Just a weird hacker looking for attention, I guess.

Same thing happened to me too. But they have the TPC message wrong. My TPc message is:

“Congrats, you saw my TPC

If you ever saw my fake character and saw the real one’s TPC message, you should know that my old TPC message is “Don’t leave me out and ur ok” if you see that TPC message, it’s the hacker

I've never had a bad experience on CT, but I'm guessing that whatever they did isn't permanent to them, probably some sort of mirroring bug, like most people who cause issues, they just want a reaction.
I seriously doubt they're masquerading around as you, you and your town will probably be fine.

I'm glad, but also saddened that this isn't the only person this has happened to. I'm guessing this is probably a new hack or exploit to copy the whole person's appearance. I laughed it off on the island (made it look like I did) and later thought about it, I freaked out of what this person can do with my "identity." I'm going to try not to worry about it, because you all are more than likely correct that it's just a mirroring thing. Still crazy that the game can be exploited like this to this point, I've been to many club tortimer island hopping experiences and have ever yet to seen this before!

And also, I really hope this doesn't deter people from going to the islands. Because there are some awesome people who are there, I actually met one before this whole incident. I just wanted to make everyone aware of this new hack these specific hackers can do and to be aware of people who may have malicious intent on the island.
