I'm trying to play a few game that I downloaded onto Windows 8 a while back. After updating to 8.1, I tried to play them, but I only get stuck at the loading screen, then it closes. I hate Windows 8.1 and I've been meaning to get rid of it, so that might fix it. Until then, any ideas?

It's Windows 8 apps that have the problem, and they don't have compatibility mode. (I think)

Ah, so I'm not the only one.

Recently I've gotten a brand-new laptop with windows 8.1. It works very well, except with wifi.

I've run 3 different games to test the laptop:
1. Ragnarok Online (this game requires very low specs)
2. League of Legend (with both high quality and low quality settings)
3. Team Fortress 2

When my laptop is cabled to the internet, all games run perfectly. No issues whatsoever.
But when I unplug it and play only with WiFi, Ragnarok still runs fine, but LoL and TF2 have massive lag issues. I see sharp fps drops, which rises again to normal (both with 30 and 60 fps capped), but more importantly, the ping rises from 15-20 (which is normal) till 300-600 ms.
And this only occurs when on WiFi.

My brother also has Windows 8.1 on another laptop (different brand) and experiences the same issues.
My boyfriend has Windows 7 on his laptop and that shows nothing my brother's and mine laptop show.

I have updated WiFi drivers and such, but have seen no improvement.

Just wondering if anyone else here is experiencing similar problems, and if so, if they have any fixes?

It's a bit of a shame to have a laptop and not being able to play wireless normally XD

I have a laptop running 8.1 that works fine on wireless. Can you get another laptop running 7 or vista, and see how it does? How far are you from your router? Have you tried changing the wireless channel on the router?

Have you tried reinstalling the apps? Are you using a desktop or a laptop?

Yes. Laptop.

Well, it's a Windows 8 app, so it wouldn't work on a 7 or Vista anyways. The game doesn't connect online, so I don't think adjusting wireless settings would change a thing.

Probably to me. ^_^

As I've already said, other laptops running Windows XP, Windows 7 and Apple iOS 10.6.blabla, all have no issues whatsoever with the wifi, at the same distance from the router. Even if I sit 1 meter from the router, the problem still occurs.
I have not tried to change the wireless channel of the router, it's my dad's and I am totally inexperienced with routers, don't want to mess with it and break something.

That's why I never upgrade until they fully fix it... or I'm getting a 7 license whenever I can afford it...

Alright, I have not fixed it exactly, but I have a solution to my issue.

I bought an USB Wireless Adapter for 10,- euros. Installed the drivers that came with the adapter and now I have absolutely no issues with my internet.

So maybe the wireless adapter/adapter's driver in my laptop is not compatible with windows 8.1 or my router. Just to note, my brother has the exact same adapter in his laptop, so that can be an indication the adapter is the issue.

That could be the problem. Just to note, if something works with Windows 8, they should work with 8.1, with a few exceptions.
My games randomly started working again, so let's all help Melyora!
