Will befriending someone on New Leaf put them as a 3ds friend?

I'd like to know, I only put people I know for real onto my friends list.

You can only invite people from your FC list into your town.

If you haven't added their FC (and they haven't added yours), then they won't be able to see your gate as open to visit your town.

You can only have 3DS friends by adding them.

Unless of course you add someone in someone else's town, then they are put in your 3DS friend list. o;

If someone you're not friends with is visiting, say, your friend's town, and you add them as a friend/best friend, then yes--they will show up on your 3DS friends list.

If you friend them locally (like, you are sitting across from each other), or at a friend's town, they do get added.
