Wild World or City Folk?

Recently I pulled out my old childhood GCN Animal Crossing file alongside my treasured New Leaf game and it's been making me want to play the DS and Wii variants as well. The problem for is that I really only have the time (and budget) to invest in one of them right now (being an adult sucks :(). And they are so similar as games as is that I really don't know which to purchase.

I grew up playing Wild World more than any other AC title so its a huge nostalgia run for me, alongside having a 3DS to play it on. I know there is more to do in City Folk but I'd have to go out and buy another Wii since I don't have one at the moment.

But I do know there are limits to what I could potentially do without Wifi in these titles as well (not obtaining the final Nook store upgrade/salon in Wild World, no Auction house in City Folk) but I can't really decide which would be a better bargain/experience.

Love both of the games to death! I just need a little opinionated guidance on which path to go down. Any insight/discussion would be appreciated. ^^

This is from another thread but it applies here as well.

Wild World vs City Folk is like comparing a vanilla game to the same one with all the expansion packs. Once you play the complete version, the vanilla just feels empty. City Folk is very similar to Wild World but is superior in almost every way. Also in Wild World you need to have a friend visit your town to unlock Nookingtons. If you don't know anyone else who plays the game, you're stuck with Nookway forever.

My ranking for the main series:
New Leaf > Gamecube > City Folk > Wild World

Honestly, the auction house was basically useless anyway. It was a slower, more tedious way of trading. Nookington's and Shampoodle are actually useful.

Animal Crossing: City Folk might sport a more smoother look and added a bit more things to do, but it's still pretty much fundamentally the same game as Wild World. If this is your only title you'll ever play on the Wii, it's not really worth the trouble investing about $60+ USD for both the console and the game.

It's worth mentioning that the Wii U version of Animal Crossing: Wild World also allows you to unlock Nookington's without the need of multiplayer functionality. That game costs $10, but the Wii U would be pricier than the original Wii.

Wild World all the way!! City Folk is the same thing except worse imo because the villager dialogue is sooo repetitive, and it's just not the same without the handheld feel. Not to mention Wild World was my first game so has that nostalgia factor.

You guys do make some good points. City Folk sounds like it may prove a better experience. Thinking about it realistically, Wild World, unlike GCN, doesn't have a lot to come back to aside from checking the dailies (fossils, store restocks, visitors) and I seem to remember it lacked almost all real world holiday events. Not sure if it would retain my interest very long, nostalgia aside.

I think after being spoiled with New Leaf for so long, City Folk may be the way to go even if I do need to pick up a Wii first. ^^

Edit: Out of curiosity, is it possible to still connect DS to DS with Wild World after the wifi shutdown? I can't remember if that feature uses Wifi connection or not. Would mean having an extra copy could yield the final Nook expansion and hair salon, theoretically.

Yes, you can still get Nookington's in WW using the local multiplayer.

At this point, there's no reason to go back to WW except for the villager conversations. Probably best to get City Folk instead.
