Why won't my cedar trees grown? :-(

Any ideas, anyone? I have no trouble with my fruit trees, I leave the right amount of space, not too close to a cliff or anything like that....yet every time I plant a cedar I check back in a couple of days and it's gone.
Would it be a glitch in the game? Or am I just missing something?
Anything special I need to do to grow them?
Have loads of fruit trees but it's not even because I've got too many as the regular ones I planted have all fully grown now.
Help please! I really wanted a woodland area :-(

i did not even know that! But that is only only place i ever planted them anyways . weird.

Oh! Damn, that's it then, I've been putting them in the middle and lower part. Will have to change plans for my forest now.

Here's another tip: don't plant trees too close together. They need a space between them or they won't grow.
