Why is Redd walking outside..?

hello, i was very confused at this tweet, where redd is outside walking outside:

how is this possible..............?

he walks outside the first 1 or 2 times you encounter him. after that, he shows up in his boat.

But seeing that the island above is already somewhat developed, it could be that the player just never talked to Redd. Not sure if you can ignore Redd for a long time though.

I think he comes when we gave enough creatures to the museum, so we can somehow decide when he would come for the first time

Just looked it up. Yeah. Apparently, you need a total of 60 donated stuff in the museum for him to show up the first time.

I had already met that criteria by the time the Redd update went live back in April that's why I didn't know.

So yeah, we can control when to unlock him.

I was ab to say, the island looks quite far along so the op probably just hasn't talked to Redd when he visited the second time. which is kinda weird bc don't you need to talk to Redd in order to visit his little ship to buy more art?

Yep. But you can buy art from someone else's Redd.

He was walking outside 3 different times on my second island. The first time I bought the painting from him. Then the second time I’m not sure why he was there because he wouldn’t sell me anything else and I couldn’t go on his boat. I think it glitched because the museum was still upgrading for the art section. Then today he was outside again and told me that he has more art on his boat, and the scene ended and I was able to go and buy art on his boat.

He will walk around your island for your first couple encounters, or until you donate a piece of art to the museum and its upgraded
