Why is Korean culture not as popular as Japan's?

That's not how it is where I live. Here everything that is Asian gets called Chinese most of the time.

There's more than just LG and Samsung from South Korea, too. There's Hyundai, Kia, and Daewoo.

Oh, by the way, yes, some things like Kpop here are thought to be from Japan (whenever I'd watch a 2NE1 video on my laptop at school they thought it was from Japan) but everyone asks me this: "Rodney, do you speak Chinese? Can you talk to me in Chinese?"

I also think their culture (not media culture) has A LOT to do with it as well. Korea is a very conservative country, therefore it is reflected in their media whereas Japan is more open-minded and expressive.

When I visited Japan, there were so many cool things, maid cafes, girls dressed up as Lolitas, crazy outfits, etc.

When I lived in Korea, just a lot of very well dressed men/women and cat/dog cafes...

What shocks me though is how everyone says that people they know think Asian things are Japanese, when here everything is thought to mainly be Chinese that's Asian.

Everything is technically chinese, just look at the back of most products, it'll say "Made in China"

True. But that includes Kpop. Here everyone thinks Kpop is Chinese or Japanese.

Anyways, while I'm not saying it's a bad thing, I actually thought Japanese culture-in fact, Japan in general-was no longer popular and all the attention had shifted to China and South Korea.

I like Japan's culture, but it just seemed like not as many people were interested in it now.

I shouldn't have compared anime to Kpop, but I didn't know what else to say as Kpop and Jpop aren't really popular in the United States, or at least where I live.

You know there is more to Korean culture than KPop? Or that there is Korean anime? Or that KPop has a huge internet following in the West?

I know that there is Korean animation and there is more to Korean culture. My point is that those things aren't as popular as Kpop and none of them are as popular as what comes from Japan.

i don't get what ur asking tbh

like ok let me just go survey the entire western hemisphere

Kpop is more popular than Jpop in my area.

And historically the United States has been more involved with Japan than South Korea (see WWII and post-WWII American history).
