Why is it important for villagers to be "original"?

I think it does boil down to being nitpicky and wanting the villager to have the original outfit on. To be fair, some of them are far more appealing when they have their original shirt on. For example, I sorta got disappointed with Bella after her skull shirt was replaced.

It's really hard to keep a villager original, they interact with each other too often.

I don't care about originality when claiming, I just want to keep Diana's house original because it's a nice house. But I don't know, I feel it isn't fair since it's their house. I feel people boss around their villagers too much.

I don't care THAT much, but if I'm paying an upwards of 10-30mil for a villager I'd like them to be mostly original at least. Just because their homes usually look nicer original and aren't full of sea bass, lol. Having the original outfit on or not doesn't bother me & I can always change a catchphrase but... homes are a little harder to influence.

Or they might just want the rare furniture.

This is pretty much why in a nutshell.

You can change their catchphrase later, you can give them their clothes back later, you can buy the set that they own. Since you can do all of that, shut up about getting them 100% original.

Maybe that's just me though.

Besides, getting them from another town already makes them less original. :/

but the house, when changed enough, can be almost irreversible.

But they can change their house with or without your consent so what's the point? :/

I've adopted plenty of villagers wearing ducky tanks and having only three pieces of furniture in their house.I think that's part of the fun of getting villagers from other towns.Since they're not "perfect" and original you can put them in whichever clothing you want and give them any kind of furniture.I also like when a villager has a back story from another town.It gives them more things to say other than their standard dialogue.

I care somewhat, I can change their shirt and catchphrase easily so I don't care if that changes. but I would like their houses not to have a ton of fish or bugs in them, especially if I pay a huge amount of bells for them I would rather them be original so I don't have to spend the time to make their houses somewhat decent.

I want my villagers to be original because I don't want a badly touched house that is an eyesore or for their shirts to be different and look bad on them. I dunno, I prefer to leave their houses and everything intact. Their catchphrases on the other hand, I can deal with.

I too think it's the rare furniture that makes people want the Originality. Add that in with the villager being cute and a special New Leaf original and it rises up the price.
Like Marshall, and his near completion of the Sloppy set, and being new to Animal crossing, and looking like a classic 'bishouen' chibi.

I honestly don't care if the villager's house is a dump or perfect. I don't want to sound rude, but shouldn't you be thankful enough for getting the villager at all? Some people would give millions of Bells for someone like Merengue or Marshal, and you're turning them down because they "aren't completely original." :p
I still like to keep my villagers as original as possible though. I don't care too much about their houses, but I like to make sure that at least their catchphrases don't change unless another villager forces them to.

To my knowledge, the player can change two things on a villager. Their tagline, and their house. The tagline can be reversed, but the house, when changed enough, can be almost irreversible.

Oh, I didn't know the house could be irreversible. :0 Still, not every house has things that are worth a lot. I see, however, why someone would be upset by a house change? They can still try to revert it back.

I don't really get it tbh, it's still the same villager. I'm totally fine with villager that isn't original, I'm always giving them ugly furniture and I want them to change shirts etc, so it doesn't matter at all :D

They'll always be the same. ^^ Just more diverse in style!

I understand this feel. I am afraid that my Ankha will change her original shirt at any point. I would still love her and not be upset if she did. It can happen no matter what.

Can't believe people actually turn down an "unoriginal" villager. They're the same no matter what. And they have the chance to change their catchphrase when the villager asks. I usually keep the catchphrase the same too, but it won't be upsetting if they suddenly changed it. Frankly, I'd be surprised if it suddenly changed since I am not aware if villagers can freely change their catchphrase. :0

Me personally? I couldn't care less. Other people differ, though. And I see why they would like their villagers to be 100% original.

It never bothered me. However, with how my new town is being set up, I want my villagers to be original, otherwise they don't represent the overall theme I'm going for.

Normally I dont care what their houses look like, but i killed Aurora's cause I wanted her kitchen and sofas....
>.>

I've never cared much. Especially with their house, catchphrase and greeting since I end up changing them. xD

One thing that kinda bugs me is when they mention their old town. But even then it's not the biggest deal because it's every once in a blue moon so whatever. xD I'm just blessed to have the villagers I like. :)

i really hate when you're giving a villager away
for free and someone asks "how original?" like
if you really wanted the villager that bad it
shouldn't matter..

I also don't get it why some people ask for originality lol If want to get original villagers, why don't just reset the campsite...

Devil's advocate. A house, catchphrase, shirt, whatever, can all be parts of a villager that someone enjoys, even if you don't. Yes, these things are bound to change but some may just want it to change in their town, or keep it relatively the same. I don't see why people get very upset at people for wanting original villagers, just pool them with the people who don't want that villager.

I'm someone who enjoys original villagers, but I'll take changed shirts, ~3 items changed in house, different catchphrase, etc. I actually like those things, since it gives indication that they lived somewhere else before haha. But if someone just wants an original villager, the fact that you don't care about something they do really isn't going to argue much for it.

I don't care that much about original villagers. It's easy for me to change back their clothes and houses 99% of the time because my catalog is near complete. Most of the time I'd prefer to put my own furniture that I think suits them better in their houses. I like Diana's original house. I like Julian's as well but of course he got rid of all his regal stuff and swapped in a watermelon table?? Okay. The villager isn't going to stay original anyway when you get them because they will find a way to put something stupid in their house and you'll just need to keep mailing them things.

The only thing I don't like is when their TOWN NAMES or MAYOR NAMES are inappropriate because they talk about them? When I received Fauna her house was nearly empty. I was able to fix it up for her a bit but one of her previous towns had been called "my butt" and she talks about it ALL the time. How she's worried she's not done unpacking from her butt. etc. Ugh.
