Am I missing something cool you can do with them? You don't get to decorate your house with them, so why would people want your lost items o.O

I think they only serve as possible decorations. The mitten lost item is incredibly cute to me, and I would honestly love to incorporate it into a room in my house somehow. That's my motivation for wanting one, at least!

If you TT, the lost item no longer can be brought back to the villager, thus, you can dispose of it or keep it as decoration. Here is my house with the lost book as a decoration:

Say whaaaaaaa? I thought you couldn't do that D: Maybe I couldn't put the mitten I had found in my house because I hadn't TT'd that day? I mean, I normally return them in the off chance I get a cool piece of furniture from the villager...Well then, I'mma keep them then lol.

That looks more like a four-leaf clover to me...
But anyways, I think people just like to use them to decorate their homes/town, since they don't appear as a brown bear bag UNLIKE OTHER ITEMS >_>

Also maybe a town theme calls for having a mitten or book or etc. lying around on the ground? That seems like a good use of them!!

I'm not sure what kind of theme would call for that, though. An Alice in Wonderland theme might call for the book for a recreation of the opening scene (? I haven't seen that movie in a long time) where Alice is reading a book under a tree. That's all I can really think of off the top of my head, though.

...I'm stupid, I only just noticed it now :P

You're not stupid lol. The picture isn't centered on that table, so, it makes sense that you thought I was talking about the lucky clover book :P.

I never kept my villagers' lost items; I always give them back to them. I'd feel bad if I kept them; the lost items I have are ones I traded for. :P

i use em for decor in my town. a lil book or pouch hidden around town looks really cute imo

That does sound incredibly cute omg.. it reminds me of the children's story about the kittens losing their mittens (I forgot the title but I bet it's something very obvious and straightforward and includes the words "kittens" and/or the word "mittens.") It makes me think something like "aah what silly villagers. Leaving their pouches in front of the cafe. what lovable and unintentional rogues"

Hmm so I guess they don't even have to have a thematic purpose to be useful !

this looks really great actually !

Thanks ^^. I'm basing it off of a room in a game, and in the room during a quest, there is a book that you have to "read" that's on a table, so, since this lost item was the only closed book item in ACNL, that's why I chose to use it ~ once I found out that you could use them as decoration. :P

omg same.. They can't have a pair of mittens if they're missing one. Who am I to deprive them of such warmth

The petition clipboard (if you're a jerk and don't complete the petition) is also great for any room in which you're studying or observing something, or doing experiments! I'm using one here for my entomology (bug-studyin') table.

If you see a lost item and want to save it to use in one of your rooms, you won't be able to drop it for the rest of that day and with any villager you talk to, the "lose something?" option will come up as the first dialogue option. Your safest/easiest bet is if you have an alt character you won't be playing that day, have *them* pick it up and hang onto it for the time being, until it can be dropped.
