Why do I feel so guilty for doing this?

I've seen Judy many times even though I haven't really spent many tickets, I didn't like her at first, but when I went to someones town because Judy were crafting something she clicked for me, dunno why, went island hopping after Flurry moved, and found her again after a few tickets and invited her, she's great.

Dunno why people care so much about having villagers other people like, in fact when I visit someone I find it incredibly bland if it's just the same 10 villagers as everyone else.

Think of it this way...do you feel like you have to like a movie or an album because a lot of people like it? The same logic should apply to villagers. Your tastes are your own and are what makes you unique. Take pride!
Many people do unfortunately, it's insane to me, but whatever.

"I've fallen into the messed up mindset that I have to take the popular villagers because of how critical the AC community has become."

I'm not sure I follow. Nobody really cares what villagers you have, and in fact people tend to appreciate those with unique villagers... not just the same ones over and over again. Nobody will criticize you for not having Judy... they may have different tastes, but who cares?

Sometimes it's like that. I had Boomer at my campsite yesterday. I didn't have him move in for two reasons. I already have 5 male villagers. I currently have 4 female villagers, and I need one more female villager. But aside from that, I wasn't feeling it with him, especially since his catchphrase is "human". Anyway, forget about who is popular and who isn't. If I had it my way, my ideal villagers would be Klaus, Hans, Wolfgang, Freya, Skye, Zucker, Vic, Sterling, Knox, and Sven (if he was in New Horizons). There might be some popular ones in my list, but I liked them before knowing about their popularity.
lmao his catchphrase is HUMAN? that is honestly so wacky

To be honest, I wouldn't take Judy either. I don't think you really should worry about what other people think because at the end of the day, it's your island, you do what you want to do. Sure I have Ankha on my list because that's my brother in laws favorite AC character EVER, even though she's super popular.. but I also have like Megan, who is highly unpopular, and Aurora too (she's not as bad, but have you seen how unpopular Megan is on the new villager poll? haha). Do I feel bad for keeping the villagers I want? No, not at all. Do I feel bad that I don't want Raymond on my island? Not at all. Why? Because at the end of the day, I want to be happy with who I have. I don't need certain villagers to make me feel any way other than I want to be happy with them.
I wanted to vote for Megan and Cyd but I figured Megan would get more love so I voted for Cyd. (I'm pretty sure you couldn't select multiples in that poll.)

You islandhopped to find someone you like, someone who dreams of Judy does the same thing. You don't expect anyone to hold a dreamie for you, so why would you expect this of yourself? No one is going to take in a villager just to randomly have them move out in months. There's no point in doing this unless you have an amiibo card, and even then you'd still be wasting your own empty plot for someone else's benefit. It's a nice thing to do for someone who's been desperately searching for her, but you really don't owe it to the community just because they're new. They're not rare, and most people are searching for more than one villager anyway. Help yourself first, then others. :)

Did you feel guilty because you thought you should like her like everybody else does, or because you should get her to gift to somebody who wants her? Either way you didn’t do anything wrong! I think playing like you do—where you wait for a personal connection with a villager—is 100% the right way to go. Like others have said, you don’t owe the community anything: no explanation for passing her up, no popular villagers to give away/trade. Just be authentic to yourself and your Island 🏝

Island hopping is for finding villagers YOU love and you shouldn't feel guilty about not taking popular villagers if you just can't connect with them.

That's fineee! We're all like that sometimes! ^^ There's nothing wrong with not liking a popular villager, I mean a lot of them I'm not exactly fond of either. Judy is a bit too unicorn coloured and cliche for me, but I'm sure there are some people out there love her enough for all of us who don't.

The reason I'd take Judy is because she's cute, she fits the aesthetic of my island, and I like her, but I've island-hopped right past other "upper-tier" villagers because there was no connection, they didn't fit my aesthetic, or they just don't appeal to me. The beauty of this game is that it's YOUR island to build, maintain, and love. If others don't like your choices-- STUFF THEM. :)

100% you shouldnt feel that kinda guilt, its ok if you pass on a villager you dont want, happens all the time when people pass on other peoples favs, theres a market for every villager, dont b scared to potentially offend people.. its just a game in the grand scheme of things! good luck getting who u REALLY want

tbh if i found a popular villager i didn’t like/want at the time i would take them just to give them away, but you shouldn’t feel guilty for not doing that or for not liking judy in the first place!! it’s a game and you like what you like and spend your time playing it the way you choose to. it’s okay to see judy and pass on her if that’s how you feel.

If I found Judy and I didn't take her I wouldn't feel bad for a second. You know who I have run into and passed up (not necessarily out of dislike, though, many of these are adorable and I would love to have them sometime in another town maybe)? Marina, Molly, Merengue, Sherb, and more.

To be fair to myself, I couldn't take any of them because they would have overloaded me with the same personalities. I think I already had three Normals when I found Merengue, and I definitely had my two Lazies when I ran into Sherb. Three is just far too much for me. The only normal I would have taken would have been Fauna, and she would sadly have to gradually replace another Normal I have on my town (which is just one, now, but I'm thinking in the past).

I’ve seen people find Raymond and turn around and leave without even talking to him. Everyone has their own tastes. You like who you like and what fans as a whole seem to like doesn’t really matter imo.

Of the new villagers I really like Cyd and he’s by far the least popular new villager aside from maybe Megan. Raymond is by far the most popular and while I find him cute I have no interest in having him live on my island. There’s nothing wrong with that. :)
