Okay, i'm pretty sure that like half my threads created are about restarting lol, sorry.

But I feel that like ever since I found out that I could reset my town back in 2014, that's what I do. I have reset every single town that I have had. The longest town I had was for a year and a few months and I took long breaks from that town. I even told myself not reset, but did I listen to myself..noooo. and now I restarted yet again in early July and I liked my map and everything, until like last week. I wanna reset, but I don't at the same time, I don't like going through that lengthy process. ugh I don't know what to do. Is anyone in the same boat as me, does anyone know how to help my resetting craze. thanks:)

It may be that you handle playing the game differently than a lot of people.

I get attached to towns.

But, it sounds like you let things play out for a while and, once you had your fill, you do a restart.

I can’t say there is something wrong with this. You seem regretting it. But, maybe you don’t need to regret it. Perhaps it has been just your way of playing “Animal Crossing: New Leaf.”

I used to reset loads as well, so I get where you’re coming from. I often found it was after a break from ACNL, and after that break I just felt unmotivated to work on it. What really helped me was sitting down and planning everything before I started my current town, that way I knew what I was doing, and I liked my town better and was more motivated to work on it. In addition, after you’re back from an ACNL hiatus, try pushing through the first days with yor current town and I promise it generally gets better~ If not, you could always try getting a second cartridge and working on that one for a bit until you feel motivated enough to resume construction on your current town!

I feel you and I think I can beaut you in terms of resetting xD I think I resetted like over 10 times now. My longest time was sticking to a town for 5 months I think, haha (i TTed though.). With my last town I realized I wasn't happy with the space I had. The river was in a U-shape running through my town. So, I chose a map where I had more space. Luckily a friend stored my items and a few bells.
Starting new is sorta enticing for me, idk why xD I get to chose on a layout, get new villagers etc. So...I really hope I'll stick with this new map for at least a year, that would be a great progression for me, haha. BTW, I never regretted the reset. I just love to start over completely new :)

Maybe you're burnt out? As in you've been playing your town so often that you start to find things you don't like about it, and you get over the freshness of it all and get bored. I know that was why I used to reset so often. However, i've just kind of accepted that there won't always be something to do in new leaf and I just wait for events to roll around. I take short breaks from the game and it really stops that urge. What helped me with my obsession with resetting towns was to stop time travelling altogether and writing down a list of things I want in a town (After a few resets, I've found what I like and don't like in a town.) and then searching for a map with exactly what I want. It took a while, but now i'm not tempted to reset anymore because it's my dream map.

I think people reset because of the allure of something 'better' (in their eyes). ACNL is a game where you are (supposedly) in control of everything - you get the map you want, the grass pattern you want, the perfect fruit, the villagers, the ponds, the rocks, the PWPs, the house etc. etc. etc.

You have control over everything (or so it seems). In reality the game is a life simulation and life simulation games rarely let you control everything. So when your villagers start to mess up their houses or Isabelle doesn't let you put a PWP where you want it or when you figure out the tiles you put down can't match up simply because of the map's quirks, you get frustrated and restart in search for something 'better'. But let's face it - you will always restart because what you want is not 'better', what you want is the possibility of perfect, which is next to zero, but you keep doing it. Why? It's just a gamble with a very small promise of what you want, so you always take that chance instead of being happy with what you have.

At least, that's why I get tempted to reset. ;)

I also reset tons of times! I remember resetting the town I worked so hard on for 5 months, just to get new eyes for the mayor!
The reason why I reset most times was when I had everything, beautiful villagers, all the PWPs in perfect places, awesome flowers, and all the store expansions. But I just wanted something different, like new villagers, new river, and a struggle to get the shops back the way it was.
But I realized that it was becoming a problem, just resetting to find new villagers, instead of caring for the ones I already have. And when I already have everything, I just end up resetting probably for 18M more bells from Tom Nook. But now, I have the perfect town layout, paths, flowers, and I try to tell myself not to reset.

Yeah, I'm exactly the same. I did it on The Sims 3 all the time. I would create the perfect family/house etc, play for ten minutes then delete it for no reason. With New Leaf, I'm such a perfectionist and I think that's where it comes from. I just need everything to be perfect so it's hard to settle down easily. I also enjoy the start of the game as you re-discover all the bugs and meet new villagers. I have a town now (DA 7D00-00FD-893B) which I'm working on to be perfect but who knows, I might delete it next week!
:)

I always reset too, I usually did it because I didn’t like my town name or I didn’t like where my house or the river was. I’ve stopped resetting now, probably because I’m only focused on Pavati, which I want to change the name of but I still like it. I have 3 towns and on 2 of them I’ve probably reset 20+ times each and I mean that. Another reason I probably haven’t reset in a while is because I really want to finish a town before Animal Crossing switch comes out (which is still probably a while away) and I’m trying to finish Pavati, which I’ve made good progress on.

I reset my first town once and never again (because I am super happy with it). I understand why people reset though... I mean there are so many maps and permanent building placements that you might dislike later on. When I started my 2nd digital file I reset about 50 times to get my map because I had this whole concept in mind and I needed my permenant buildings to be in a specific spot. Now that I found it though, I know I’ll never reset this town.. I also stopped looking for any flaws in the town because I know the map is as close to perfect that I’ll ever find. So rocks that would normally bother me just became a landscaping challenge to work around. Same with villagers who move in.

I have an unhealthy obsession with resetting for better maps, whenever I have my town for more than 20 days I start feeling I could've had a better town/grass shape/town fruit. I used to reset when I got an unwanted villager but in more of my recent towns I haven't reset because of that.

Finally it's just for the fact I keep wanting to change my villagers in my town, like if I wanted Marshal again instead of Julian I would reset because I wouldn't want to wait until Julian moved out and I didn't want to deal with cycling 16 villagers or having to go on an online quest just for an amiibo card if I ever want Marshal back.

I'm actually the opposite when it comes to towns. I fall in love with them and the villagers and the only time I reset was when I started playing up again (funny enough for some reason I picked 2014 so I feel like I'm stuck in the past now)

Maybe you just haven't found a town you really truly love yet. I have gotten the urge to reset once the bell expenses start to get super high - but I just can't bring myself to do it. I'd suggest keep trying until you find a map that you really like and maybe that will help motivate you to keep your town. If not mine is always open ^_^

I'm the same way. When I started my first town, I simply picked from the 4-5 maps that were given to me, and didn't reset for a better one. Later the town corrupted and I was forced to get a new one, which I was really upset about. But again, when choosing a map for my second town, I simply went with one of the first ones given to me.

Honestly, I think a lot of cool towns were made simply by planning decorations and villagers. I doubt they spent hours and hours resetting for the perfect map. Sure you can keep resetting if you want, but sometimes it's best to settle with what you have and turn it into something really amazing, y'know?

Gosh I hate resetting because I get too attached to my villager right away :v Lol, in terms of my map, I didn't even know there were multiple ones to choose from :v I thought everyone got the same map and same face, so I was like, eh whatever xD But yeah, I've grown to like my face and my map layout. I used to hate that my retail was at the top of my map, but now that I've opened my town for people to sell, I like having it at the top because it's a bit easier to people to go to and from the trainstation c:

Im a habitual resetter to the point when I ask myself why I even bother playing. I reset towns after a month of playing for various reasons: Villager placement, map layout and buying stuff from people instead of earning it. But i found some ways to keep myself from resetting.

Villagers arent permanent. They ping to move, might take a while, but they leave. Map layout, every map in this game even the ones with 55 ponds have the potential to be a good town. You just got to be creative. Look at the potentials the map has, not the flaws. LIke with my town of Zenwood, there is a pond, annoyingly in middle of nowhere. And instead of looking at that as an obstacle, I turned it into a little oasis with flowers, bush starts, trees and stumps and it looks amazing. Other thing I decided to do to keep the game fun is not buying stuff from people. In one of my towns, I bought 22 million bells from someone and then the game ceased being fun because I was able top pay off everything right away with money I didnt even earn myself.

Setting goals for your town helps. In my last town, I made a goal of making it to the T&T Emporium. In this town I plan to make it to the Emporium, and have the Fortune Shop, complete my museum (including the art section) obtain all the island exclusive items (including Club Tortimer items), get gold in all the badges, except the streetpass badge, completely landscape my entire town, fully upgrade my house and have all the rooms completely furnished, and earn all the emotions from Dr. Shrunk. And most of those will take at least a year to complete. So setting goals gives you something to strive for and work hard for, instead of just playing to play.

Lastly, just taking a break helps. I took a break from the game and the forums for about a month or so and came back refreshed and ready to play.

And when the feeling of wanting to reset creeps up, I just dont' play the game for a few days (only logging on to make sure no one moves) because if I log on to the game with the need to reset, Ill end up resetting. Then I came back after a few says and the feeling is gone.

Wow, that was a lot of words I typed. So TL;dr: set goals, earn everything on your own, take a break, look at the potentials of a map instead of its flaws.
