I love cats. So I want my town to be full of 'em. I have Rosie, Purrl, Mitzi, Lolly and Kabuki already, and I couldn't be happier! I still need Tom, Kiki, Tangy and Punchy though.

Elvis because he is like my best friend ever, I had him in Wild World and my sister deleted it after I got the picture and I cried for hours as he was just my favourite lion ever, and soon to be the best animal ever. So ever since then I have been trying to get him back, and now while on New Leaf, my goal has become my life goal as I love New Leaf that much.
Lets see:
-Beau: looks adorable and he makes an amazing best friend because of his laid back personality, he's always calm.
-Celia: I don't know why she's not popular, she is so beautiful and her normal personality makes for becoming quick besties.
-Fuchsia: Love her pink color and her blonde hair, and I love uchi's because their personalities are so unique.
-Apple: By far one of the CUTEST hamsters in the game! Her big eyes, her tiny little nose, her rosy cheeks, her apple color, she's just all around adorable, and her voice fits her to a tea, so damn cute! GAH! <3
-Hamlet: LOVE his colors and his little brown hair curl. Love jocks too, they're always so pumped and ready for anything.
-Chief and Fang: LOVE these 2 wolves, their colors are gorgeous and they quickly became best friends with both me and each other <3 This is a friendship I love <3 I hope to get Wolfgang back after the 16 villager cycle is over so I can get a triple friendship going on.
-Walt: Love his rough, scarred look about him, like he used to be a boxer at one point in his life and now he wants to settle down. Underneath that rough exterior and the look in his eyes, he's a big softy <3 Love him.
-Rooney: New villager in Totten, moved in 3 days ago. I originally wanted both male Kangaroos in my town. At first I didn't like him too much, but I came to love him after meeting him in a dream. I love his house, it's a full on gym. I also LOVE his outfit, very sporty. His colors are also very pretty, very unique. Can't wait to become better friends with him.
-Pietro: OMG this clown sheep is my all time favorite villager in Animal Crossing, period. Ever since I saw him in a few dream towns, I've wanted him. I finally got him from a kind player on these forums and I've loved him ever since. His colors are gorgeous, they represent my pride and everything I stand for, his personality is very charming and kind, and I love him dearly. He, I can say, will never be leaving my town.

Kiki and Ribbot have been in all my towns since GC, so I just had to get them in this game.

Barold- Love him from the first sight!! Such a cutie funny looking bear! Now he will never leave my town!! NEVER!! <3
Zell- Gone but not forgotten, first one to move in my town after 3 days. Still miss him even he already leave my town.

Diana - At first I didn't care about her, until I saw her in-game. She stole my heart since then.
Flora - One of my originals in the old town(which sadly moved out w/o telling me) and I think she's a cute flamingo, so I'm glad I have her back in my town.
Jacques - I like his house, so I'd thought it'll be pretty cool to have him on my town. He also look pretty cool appearance-wise, and he's the first smug I consider to have in my town.
Sparro - I think he looks quite interesting and cute. At first I only thought that he's interesting but later I decided to have him on my town.
Apollo - He's one of my villagers in WW, and he looks great too.
Erik - Same like Diana, I didn't care about him at first until I saw him on the campsite. He's cute but I passed him at that time, which I kinda regretted. Luckily I got him from someone here.
As for my other villagers:
Marshal - I was resetting for Jacques when his plot popped up, so I took the chance and kept him. He's the most popular villager, after all.
Marina - After passing Erik and Zucker three times(I'm dedicated to someone else), her plot popped up and I took her in. She's also one of my WW villagers.
Skye - I never considered her until she's on the campsite when I'm resetting for Fauna or Erik. She's cute so I took her.
Katt - Since Phoebe moved out(and it'll took some patience to get her back and I'm almost done with my dreamies), she's one of the replacements I consider(along with Deirdre), and when I'm resetting Skye's plot, she popped up in my campsite so I took her in.

In almost all cases it's because of the way they look considering the fact that there is no variation in dialogue across any specific personality type; it's just the "outer packaging" that's different. It might also be because of sentimental value - for example, some people who have had certain villagers in previous games might want to acquire them in New Leaf.
Chief - He's cute for a cranky, albeit a bit plain, and I've had him in previous games. He's also one of my only good SP move-ins.
Gigi - I had her move in as a camper, and I actually find her design pretty cute, plus snooty is one of my favorite personalities. I'm sorta sad that there aren't that many other people who like her, but I guess that makes her special for me in a way. c:
