So I started thinking about the ostrich villagers and realized that none of them are really ostriches... ?
Flora is a flamingo, Phil is a pheasant, Blanche is a white crane, Gladys is a red-crowned crane, Cranston is a crested ibis, Phoebe is a phoenix, etc.

There isn't actually an ostrich villager that resembles an ostrich. I think it would have made much more sense to call this category of villagers "tall birds," or something similar to that.

Why do you think they're called ostriches when none of them really even are? o:

I guess some of the orignal ostriches were more ostrich-like? IDK. I believe they should be called cranes. I love them anyway, though. <3

Queenie kinda looks like an ostrich.

I think they're all ostriches because they don't look like the actual bird villagers.

Like the bear cubs and actual bears, I guess you can't call the actual bird species "little birds" and "big birds," and, since all the ostrich villagers are as tall as an ostrich, or look somewhat like it, you can't really call them anything other than an ostrich.

Cranes is a much better name for them since a lot of them actually are cranes. That sounds more appealing too, and their shape is sort of more crane-ish than ostrich-ish.
Oh yeah, I forgot about Queenie. I guess she's a purple ostrich :D

Huh I guess so. Ostrich just seems like an odd name for a villager category to me since it's a specific species while the other villager types seem a bit broader.

Queenie is a quail. ;)

I always thought Blanche was the only ostrich, but white crane seems to make more sense! Also, based on Cranstons home I think he's supposed to be a stork.

I think many people just associate the elongated neck with ostriches. They could just as easily be emus, or cranes, etc. But I do want to point out that Blanche is not merely an ostrich or a crane- she is my personal queen. :D

Should've just called them Aves since most belong to that class

Is she? That's another ostrich villager that isn't actually an ostrich >.<
Oh you're right, his house definitely makes him seem like a stork! But then he looks exactly like a crested ibis  They should have just made his design a stork

Aren't all birds classified as Aves?

Once you start down the road of Linnaean taxonomy, you'd also have mammalia, vermes and amphibia though- categories of such breadth, that they'd be nearly meaningless (well, to many.) But an interesting idea.
