Why are my villagers so obsessed with coelacanths?

This morning, Rocket asked me to catch her a freaking coelacanth. Of course, I said no, because A) it wasn't raining and B) even if it was, it would have taken forEVER.

Just now, Purrl asked me for the SAME FAVOR. Ugh. Seriously...what kind of magic fisherman-person do my villagers think I am?!

Same thing happens to me, except with Oarfish.
Of course I say yes, but it never really happens.

First coelacanth I caught, every villager I walked past pinged me wanting to trade it for Crappy Shirt X. At least four of them tried to scam me before I reached Main Street and escaped their clutches.

Of course I say yes, but it never really happens.

I wish that fish were tradable... Oarfish show up just as much as Seabass do for me.
