I've never been the type to project myself into a video game or other media, so I never name the characters in anything after myself. I would always go with the default names like in Legend of Zelda or Chrono Trigger.

Having the option to customize your character to any extent however, causes something entirely different to happen.

In the case of New Leaf, the mayor of my town is modeled after an OC of mine from about ten years ago when I did forum RPs. Tsu-maru Annaii (I couldn't think of a town name, so it became her last name). You can also see her on my forum avatar there.

Being a bit of a hippie-ish fairy girl who loves nature and fuzzy animals, I could think of no other character who would be suited for this kind of game. That's part of why I don't want to put road designs on my town, as they make the town look less nature-esque.

Her outfit is supposed to be a pair of overalls with a shirt underneath, but a dress works well for her. Being such a nature lover she tends to go barefoot a lot, so that option in New Leaf works for her. I just wish her pigtails could be bigger and fluffier.

She's often associated with clovers and ladybugs, so I made sure to have one of each displayed in her room.

The little symbol on her outfit (which is also my town's flag) is her personal emblem and is meant to represent the wind element. I made sure to get the face that has the little blushies on the cheeks, since those were always part of character design.

So now that I'm done rambling, I turn to the folks at home and ask you: Who does your Animal Crossing New Leaf character represent? How do you try to get your character to resemble that person?

Before I stuffed my pattern slots with path QR codes, I had found an outfit for Cirno available in a dreamtown and saved it to my designs, and ended up going for a bit of a Cirno cosplay for quite a while. The short hair with little fringe of bangs matches her design pretty well, and I ended up wearing my blue pumps and blue-stripe tights to add a bit of my own flare to her design. Plus the lil' blue ribbon helped make up for the game's lack of huge blue ribbons. (And no, I'm not wearing the hair-bow wig)

Alas, my slots at the moment are still hoarded with path designs, but maybe one day I'll go back to dressing like that cutie.

I don't have any pictures on me of my Mayor dressed as her, but here's a reference of Cirno:

Somewhere along the road of life I developed a character named Serif. She's been in my mind for years and I tend to model a lot of things after her. My Mayor is one of them~

Guess you can call her my muse in a sense~

My mayor in my Joy town is a witch. I've had her that way for about two years now.

My mayor in my Farm town is little Bo Peep. This character gave me the idea to make the other characters after nursury rhymes. Theres old Mcdonald, miss Mary quite contrary, and The Muffin Man.

My Critters town has a honey bee as the mayor. This was my favorite house to decorate. I loved making a honey bee themed home.

My town was named after the lunar city Granada from Zeta Gundam. We fly the AEUG symbol as our flag and we've got a piece of "Fly! Gundam" as the town tune. Also, a fun little Char Aznable cutout for the visitors.

So I guess I've always portrayed my mayor as some kind of cool captain and the villagers are the "crew". They call my mayor things like captain, ma'am, admiral, stuff like that. Here and there I'll put on my Char Aznable uniform and parade around town. My house has several paintings of Char in it. I guess he's like our mascot or something, heh heh.

I've made a lot of Gundam based clothes, too, which most of my villagers wear.

I dunno', I basically went into this game years ago thinking "this is going to be a UC Gundam kind of town" and stuck with it. There are references to it everywhere.

Interesting question. A friend of mine typically creates elaborate backstories for her characters in a number of games and then plays according to how she envisions that character to be. She makes it really immersive for herself, which seems really cool, but it's a lot of work!

I don't work so hard to create a backstory. I do have a vague sense of most of my AC:NL characters' traits, but that's because in many cases, they're inspired by existing characters from elsewhere. Mayor Vol doesn't really have much of a character, per se. It's just me, playin'. She's named after my character from the MMO Glitch (that's VS over there in my profile pic).

Of the other villagers in the two towns I set up, Abhelica is an old gaming name I used to use (the closest in bastardized Latin I could get to "Inspiral", as I'm a fan of the Inspiral Carpets). I think of her as a little shyer than Vol and her house is basically half-hers and half a series of tableaus. Gwen was created just so I could set up some rooms that reminded me of Glitch, featuring QR codes inspired by the game.

Then there's Zille, Alph, Cosma, Mab, and Spriggan. They're named after some of Glitch's Giants, who imagined everything into being according to game lore. Each has affiliations, so I'm designing their homes and eventually their appearances based on this. Zille imagined any- and everything made of rock, Alph likes making stuff and things (and things that go BOOM!), Cosma's a bit of an airhead and is responsible for anything gaseous or floaty (including butterfly farts!), Mab is all about growth and harvesting, and Spriggan imagined the trees. Lots of room to play with these--it's been super fun so far! They look nothing like the Giants, though.
