Who is Melanie Martinez?

She's basically a musical artist with a really pleasant voice and an interesting musical style and an interesting fashion sense. Her music often revolves around very adult situations being described but with a very child-like theme, which can come across as either creative or... uncomfortable, honestly. I really admire her from an artistic standpoint but I also am sorta uncomfortable with how she uses mental illness as an aesthetic?? I mean if she actually is mentally ill then I guess I'm fine with it (mental illness is a serious issue but I don't think mentally ill people should be expected to take something that is a big part of our lives seriously all the time), but she's never really made it clear so I'm sorta. Iffy about it, I'm iffy about most people who try to look ~edgy~ by throwing around mental illness.

aa yes i agree!! she doesnt have to talk about her mental illness (if she has one) but tbh it's not cool to use it as an aesthetic if she's not mentally ill.. and many of her fans seem to be ableist, from what ive googled lmao

and if she wants to sing about mental illness and be edgy imo she should either a) talk about it more as if it's not totally srs in interviews or b) make it realisic and not "oh look at me im CRAAAZYYYY look im hitting a teddy bear !!" purely 4 The Aesthetics smh

Her songs are child-related, but not necessarily for children. It's dark humor when you get down to it. I like her songs, because they fit the genre I like, and I like "creepy" songs, but I think she's taking the creepy children thing to far. She took down almost all her music videos and changed them to make it really creepy and disturbing, so I stopped liking her personally.

I followed her youtube channel before she went on The Voice. I liked her covers waaay better than her original songs. The youtube channel doesn't exist anymore and I'm really sad.

Oh yeah, I also followed her Litttle Body Big Heart photography. I loved her photography. I'm not sure if that's still available too or not. I honestly just hate what she became after The Voice. She's got the whole alter-ego thing going on now.

Edit: Just looked up her photography name and the images are mostly selfies now....
