My boyfriend purchased the game on release with me, but didn't end up caring for it, so he gave it to me. I used it for cycling for a while, but I didn't have the time to keep it going, so now the second copy just sits there useless! So my advice would be to make sure you have the time and desire to manage it. c: You could always make a second town if cycling doesn't work out for you though!
I have two cartridges, one is used only for cycling. I like having a cycling town because not only do I help people get their dreamies but you can use a cycling town to hold items for other people, let weeds grow and have people over to help with their badges, or enact beautiful town ordinance and give away flowers for free Probably about 80% of the villagers from my cycle are given to people for free, and it's really fun to see their reaction when you tell them that since they're usually very happy. It does take quite a bit of time though. The villagers go into boxes quickly, but it is kind of tedious. It can also get frustrating waiting for people who have been lurking for a villager on your thread to respond to you, some villagers take a long time to be claimed. I would also say that you probably shouldn't expect to make a lot of profit off of your thread, but of course that depends on how you set it up - I personally make next to nothing with mine lol. I have also noticed that my cycling town distracts me playing my main town often.
Ultimately, it's worth it to me because it adds another dimension to the game. I guess my advice would be: be patient and remember that you don't owe people villagers or anything, you're doing this in your free time because you're trying to be nice and you can do with your town as you please.
Sorry if that was rambl-y and all over the place but yeah ^.^
I have two cartridges and a digital... I'm getting ready to reset my digital copy though cause I'm not happy with the map, but I love my two cart towns!
I did a cycle town for a while. I say do it if you know you'll have time to. People like consistency and I often found it hard to keep up with a cycle town page. But good luck!
I actually used to have three for a while, since the second got filled with more villagers I wanted to keep LOL. But now I'm back to two helping people get their dreamies. I personally TT 5 days at a time, talking to every villagers for rumors. It's worth the work to most people!
I have 3! 2 proper towns and one I use for time travelling for turnip prices and so my friends can weed to get their badges. I may develop my 3rd at some point tho.
This is rather embarrassing to admit--but it's my favorite game EVER, and I just cant get into consoles . . . so I've put my entertainment money into this--I have four and just recently bought a Japanese 3DS and the game. I LOVE traveling to all my towns and intermingling and having so much freedom to design so many rooms and orchards and . . . . I kinda rotate the emphasis of who gets my focus. Anymore, I can't imagine just having one little, lone village.
Yes i bought a second copy and i used it to grow hybrids and other stuff but silly me let someone borrow it and they lost it
But they did buy me another copy so yay.
I have an old DS I was going to use for another town.. but can you just use the same 3DS and play? I for some reason thought it had to be another console
I bought a second copy when I lost my original copy that I had worked on for a long time. I just wanted to try and start over, but I ended up finding my original game. I wanted to do something with my second town but I ended up losing interest in New Leaf all together and I sold my second copy yesterday.
Making a cycling town could be fun, but it just seemed like a lot of work for my taste.

I haven't, based on the fact I don't get to play as much as I'd like nowadays with my freelance job and my university job. Keeping up with one town is hard enough, but two? I don't think I could manage it, lol.
I bought a second copy back in November, and I moved my side character from my other town into it. And whaddya know, that became my main town. I also bought a third copy but I lost it like a month ago
I have 2 towns. I just reset my second copy. I just got tired of trying to like the town layout. The only downside I have found is if you can't get rid of a villager, they move into your other game. After awhile it feels tedious and long to get rid of some unwanted villagers.
