Whenever I start a new town in ACNL I set it a month or few behind real-time for a "head-start". Does anyone else do this? If so, does anyone got any tips we should know about?
I just jump days ahead and back. I'd advise getting beautiful town as an ordinance asap. Other than that, check in on villagers if you like 'em and don't want 'em to leave. Path off places you might want for later so no one sits their house on it.

I do this too. I'm still playing in September because i took a hiatus from New Leaf in July. I've managed to get to September which is good, i'm not so far behind anymore. It's a good method to speed up time in town, and you can get things done quicker, but TT'ing isn't for everyone.
Tips - If you haven't played for like a month, remember the date you stopped playing on and change the date to the date you stopped playing on. This stops people randomly moving out, especially if your town is full of dreamies you want to keep. Also you won't get bedhead when you load up your town, bedhead is super annoying lmao!
- Try and play multiple days in one day if you're trying to speed up progress, if not you can play in normal time!
Yep, that's how I start too ^^ I always pick a nice date (e.g. valentines day, Childrens day, anniversary, etc) to plant the town tree, then fast forward every day (collecting fossils, etc) until current date and by then most of the PWPs like club LOL etc. are all established. It does get tedious though, so of course it's done over days/weeks rather than all at once.
