For me, it was Celia. I didn't particularly like her when I first moved into my town (since I'm generally not a bird fan anyway) but she won me over eventually.
She's one of the few villagers that tolerate me blabbing to them almost relentlessly about nothing and she has always been kind to me ^^
Now I hope she never leaves my town! (Though I wish she'd wear the clothes I send her ;
I'd have to say Rocco. He's an original villager for me. The cranky personality isn't my favourite and I didn't expect to like him so much. He definitely grew on me after a while! I'm glad he's stayed in my town. I think they've mellowed out the cranky/snooty personalities from past games. I know some people don't like that, but I personally don't mind.
In my first NL town ever it was Stinky. I lost him to a TT error after having him in my town for months (my last original villager), but he found his way to my 2nd town 2 years later when I decided to make a new game <3 In my new town, I didn't think I'd like Hazel that much, but she's so freakin adorable. I think the monobrow makes her cuter.
Julian. I really never imagined I would like him. I'd seen him in a few towns and just couldn't see the appeal, the fact his eyes were closed creeped me out. Anyway, I ended up having a spare slot in my town and he became available, decided to give him a go....ended up being one of my favourite villagers. Probably to do with his personality as I adore the smugs. But I did warm up to his design the more time I spent around him
I've said this before somewhere, but definitely Clay and Katt. Katt was a void move-in and she wouldn't move out even though I waited for months. In that time I ended up liking her and now when she's finally started asking to move out, I'm not letting her go.. Clay on the other hand was a starter villager. I was indifferent at first but I came to realize he's actually really cool, like look at that design and house.. He's not leaving either. And then there's Tex who moved right in front of my house in a previous town. Needless to say, I disliked him at first but then I grew to like him and couldn't let him go even though his house was in horrible place.
There's even more but I'll just leave it at that. Befriending villagers you don't like/feel indifferent about at first is probably my favorite way of finding new favorites!
Well at first I hated Pietro, I saw him in a video and thought he was the ugliest being, but after awhile he started to grow on me and I saw him for sale and the idea grew on me more and so I bought him and became super attached XD he's my little rainbow cotton candy lol, he moved out which I was really sad about but I just got him back after hard work, he's forever a permanent resident and a dreamie now! I can't believe I didn't like him XD
Well, the only character that really applies for me, is Mathilda. But this was back on the GC game. I didn't like Mathilda when I was a kid, because she just seemed like a total ass. But over time, she never once tried to move out, and sometimes I just got bored and spent time with her anyways. And in the end I really liked her. I haven't been able to access my family's GC town in so long, all of my childhood faves are probably gone, but I'll never forget all of the fun I had with them! And, I've been able to see them again, thanks to New Leaf. I had Mathilda stay in my current NL town for a while, but recently replaced her with Cleo. No hard feelings Mathilda, but Cleo was my bestie way back when
There are villager designs that I really like, and the rest I am usually indifferent to. But I am not hardcore enough/lazy when it comes to getting villagers I like, plus it's too much of a hassle for me when villagers move out and new ones move in on places where I have rare flowers, so I like keeping the villagers I have now forever. My recent move-ins (about a year ago) are Diana and Julian, and I like them both because they are cuter than my previous snooty and smug villagers. I like all of my villagers, although I would only be really sad if the villagers I had since starting my town moved out. I also really like grouchy villagers because they're so tsundere, so I end up liking them a lot even if their design doesn't appeal to me much.
