In my town of Acme I have five female villagers (Fauna, Gwen, Charlise, Amelia and Mint) and five male villagers (Teddy, Lyman, Sheldon, Tex and Apollo).

In my town of NewLeaf I have six female villagers (Molly, Pekoe, Francine, Chrissy, Ankha and Pancetti) and four male villagers (Tom, Puck, W. Link and Poncho).

In my town of Joyvile I have six female villagers (Caroline, Pompom, Margie, Muffy Rosie and Dora) and three male villagers (Pierce, Marshal and Dizzy)

I have a heck of a time determining gender unless *it* is referred to as him or her and not them or they. They're not selected by gender, only the luck of the draw.
