Like my title says, I'm wondering which axe has a better chance at producing special patterns? The silver axe or the gold axe? I recently helped someone cut down her orchards. She had a silver axe and I had a golden axe and only one tree I cut down had a special pattern. However, almost all the trees she cut down with axe had special patterns. I want to know which axe is better because I want special stumps around a bonfire I have in the town. Please help me!

Silver axes are always guaranteed special tree stump patterns. Regular and golden axes can make them too but they have a much lower chance of doing so. You can get silver axes from the island but I think it's rare finding them?
When you get one I suggest using a regular / golden axe the first two swings and save the third swing for your silver axe. That way it'll last much longer. Also cedar trees and non-cedar trees produce different types of patterns. I hope your bonfire area works out great!

Silver axe from the island always makes the special pattern stumps...
What I do is hit the tree with regular or golden axe 2 times, then the 3rd time use the silver axe to make the patterns c: that way it only takes 1 hit on the silver axe (so it doesn't get worn out and break that fast).. hope I made sense xD

I did the same thing in my town. Good luck finding a silver axe.

The silver axe has the highest chance and the gold axe has a lower chance, but still better than a normal axe. I'd say go with silver axe, they are hard to come by but some people often sell them on Retail
