Where's my Cherries?

Sorry if this a stupid noob question but I'm still very new to Animal Crossing so... =D

Anyway, I used to have lots of cherries and collected them many times to sell for Nook. Today there was no new cherries hanging on the trees. Does it take a few days for them to grow back? Or is it because I collected too many in short time that I now don't have any cherries left?

takes a few days I believe 3 though not certain.
